Colorado AD (partially) owns liquor store near campus?!?!
Colorado AD (partially) owns liquor store near campus?!?!
You've got to be kidding me! Frickin' Colorado! They'll probably find out he owns a massage parlor and an escort service next!
With the current atmosphere in Columbus it would seem highly unlikely that a high ranking university employee would be allowed to co-own an establishment whose sole purpose is to provide alcohol to the people who live on or near campus. Thoughts?

I see absolutely nothing wrong with it, as long as he doesn't sell to underagers.

Legally, I agree, but:
Underage kids (some of whom are on athletic scholarships) DO drink on campus in Boulder (everywhere else too, but in Boulder this has been well documented of late ). If they're drinking hard alcohol am I to assume they got it somewhere else? So someone over 21 bought it... so what? The store exists in that location because that's where there customers are! Who are those customers? Grad students?
A large part of an AD's job is making sure that policies exist and training is delivered to student athletes about the avoidance of all kinds of illegal stuff (steroids, drugs, alcohol if you're under 21, agents, mugging people on High St., etc.) Every major university has a major initiative going on right now to "combat alcohol abuse". This guy is in charge of the athletic department at the center of a sex and alcohol scandal and he was sitting on the board of the very store where these students likely obtained there alcohol. Now that's the model of ethics I want running my department during an investigation!
Now that being said... it's OK and it's actually funny because it's Colorado... but if it was us?!?! I'd be [censored]ed!

I'm with Mili. I don't hold the buisnessman responsible for what is done with his products after he sells them. Eliminating liquor stores is not going to stop kids from drinking and I don't think it's his fault if 21 year olds buy it and then distribute it to other kids.

Everyone in Colorado owns a liquor store - no real story here...
Seriously, I see no problem with it. Do you seriously think an AD will think: "Let's see, if I open a liquor store near campus, then promote drinking at recruiting visits, I'll make a killing!"

No, he probably thinks that if I can get liquor for these hoes a little cheaper. Maybe, they'll put out for my recruits a little more.
And, oh yeah. A liquor store next to a college campus should turn a tidy profit too.

Exactly. He's profiting directly from an activity he's charged with preventing.
No, I don't hold the businessman responsible for underage drinking. The other owners are cool with me.

No, it's just the message it sends. It would be a lot like Nancy Reagan doing beer commercials and her "Just say no" campaign. It kind of "waters down" the message.
I do wonder what he would do if someone from his store called him to say they had busted a star player trying to buy with a fake ID...
