The Toadies' Possum Kingdom and 3 Days by Janes Addiction are my favorite nominees so far. The guitar solo towards the end of 3 Days gives me chills everytime I hear it.
My favorite intro is the four minutes leading into the song Duress by Swervedriver ... followed closely by the bass line at the beginning of One Of These Days by Pink Floyd. |

I'm rather fond of the intro to Help on the Way on One from the Vault. Another one of my favorites: Light up or Leave Me Alone - Traffic ![]() And who can forget: Johnny B. Goode - Chuck Berry |

Best intro:
Close to the Edge - Yes (Steve Howe) Best riff: Crossroads - Cream (Eric Clapton) Best overall guitar performance: Live version of Stairway to Heaven from the movie The Song Remains the Same - Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page) ....you have to see it to believe it. |

Best intro to any song by anyone ever - Yes - "Close to the Edge" Best studio recording solo - Steve Howe - Yes "Sound Chaser" Agree that Clapton's best solo is in "Crossroads" Best live solo - Steve Howe - Yes - the entire "Yessongs" album (3 LPs) p.s. from "The Song Remains the Same" movie, I prefer the extended version of "Dazed and Confused", but of course "Stairway to Heaven" is awesome! |
