Enlisted Active Duty USAF in 2000, and have been on active duty ever since. (under 15 more years and I can retire)
As far as assignments, nothing exciting Nov 2000-Jun 2005 - Brooks City-Base, San Antonio TX - During which time I spent over 500 days deployed/ TDY, to include Fort Bragg NC, Cheyenne Mountain AFS CO, Offutt AFB NE (was there 9-11), Patrick AFB FL, Scott AFB, Ill, Tyndall AFB FL, and a 6 month tour in Baghdad Iraq w/ missions to Tikrit and Mosul, Jul 05- Present Goodfellow AFB TX - as an intelligence course instructor. I don't regret the decision and would deploy any where anytime if called to do so. I love this country and will defend it with my life if called to do so. I thank the Lord for the freedoms of this country and feel honored to serve. |

No, and 266 has been my lucky number ever since.
Back in the late 1960s they had a military draft and the Viet Nam War was going on. College students were given a student deferment (classified as "2S") while they were in college; and drafted after they graduated and/or left school. In 1970 they stopped issuing new student deferments and started a draft lottery system. You were assigned a draft number based on the order that the ball with your birthdate was selected (in a random drawing). <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=550 align=center border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top height=209> <TABLE borderColor=#000000 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=200 align=center border=1><TBODY><TR><TD> </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>Rep. Alexander Pirnie, R-NY, draws the first capsule in the lottery drawing held on Dec. 1, 1969. The capsule contained the date, Sept. 14. http://www.sss.gov/lotter1.htm </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> Fortunately my draft board (in Lancaster OH) only drafted to (approximately) #180 that year. Number 266 was my lucky number. Attitudes toward military service were very differernt back then. Thank you Richard Nixon!!! ![]() |

Here's an old thread (started by, of all people, KillSlashBurn), which has some of this already discussed:
BuckeyePlanet Veterens sound off!! It wasn't a poll though, but you can gleen who is and isn't a vet. Army btw. 1974 - 1977 Two and one half years stationed at Schofield Barracks. Tropic Lighting Division. At the time, they (we) were the only infantry division in U.S. Army. By infantry, I mean walking, not the namby-pamby wimp-ass Mechanized Infantry. I don't follow that stuff anymore, don't know if there are any leg units left. BuckeyePlanet Veterens sound off!! |
