Do you find hair to be gross?
The drain in our shower had been pretty clogged up for a couple of months. I tried some of that drain cleaner fluid stuff for about two weeks, and I don't think it did any good. So I figured I'd try one of those snake things that cleans drains. I went to the hardware store to get one, and got one for less than $10.
So I got home and crammed it down the drain and I'm goin' to town with it for about 15 minutes, when I figured I'd pull it out to see if I've got something. It turns out that I did: a clump of hair about 2" diameter (the diameter of the drain pipe) by about 6 inches long. It was possibly the grossest thing I've ever seen, and when I went to clean it off the hook, I think I was pretty close to throwing up.
I don't think it was my hair. My hair isn't nearly so dark. But even if it was, I think I'd still find it gross. I hate cleaning the drain cover. Does anyone else find old, wet hair to be gross? And why is it so gross? I don't have any answers.

It is pretty nasty, especially when you realize more than just yourself has used that shower.

It's usually womens hair that clogs the drains because it's long enough to wrap around the drain.
Usually I just use a plunger on the drain and it pulls any hair out.

I bought some stuff at Home Depot a few years ago that works extremely well... it's pretty powerful and they tell you no to use it on plastic and you have to wear gloves while using it. After I poured it down the drain I would have to air out the house because it smelled bad... but it go the job done and I never had to see what was down there.

Is that stuff able to be used in septic tanks or does it kill the organisms?

???
I used the foaming pipe snake stuff. My fiance took the first shower after I used it and said the water started to back up worse than ever, then something popped and all the water went down the drain. We haven't had any problems since. I hate cleaning her hair out of the drain cover.

Was it sulfuric acid? The guy at Lowe's tried to sell me sulfuric acid, saying that it worked great. I'm a little cautious, because sometimes I get the feel that a strong wind is going to knock my house over. Sulfuric acid might just disintigrate the whole thing.
