July Honeymoon Location Advice

I'm getting married this July, and we're still trying to figure out where to go on our honeymoon

Date: July 16-23
Budget: 2000-2500 (roughly)

We are not looking for a ton of activities or sightseeing. We've looked at all-inclusive packages, but are not sure we need everything that comes with one of those.

We naturally looked at the caribbean, is it too hot at that time of year?

Does anyone know of a nice area that isn't as overpopulated?

Are there any state-side locations that you would prefer over some caribbean locales?

Does anyone have any experience with couples only resorts? It would be nice to not have tons of screaming kids, but I've also heard stories about being subjected to a lot of public tomfoolery at a couples only resort.

Hey Jwins, congrats on taking that leap.

We got married in June, and went to Jamaica (Ocho Rios). Here's where we stayed: http://www.sunsetjamaicagrande.com/ (It was the Renaissance Jamaica Grande at the time, however.) We had one of the beachfront cabanas, and loved it. We were right on the ground floor, and our room opened up right on the beach.

It was really nice, but it was really hot during the day. I would go back in a minute though. We were lucky to get our room, as most of the resort was booked by the time we reserved our room (early March). So, I would suggest you book something soon. If your fiance is anything like my wife, she won't be amused if you can't get a good trip lined up.

Definitely go all-inclusive. Drinks and food are ultra-expensive if you pay cash per meal/per drink. (I think the list price of our breakfast buffet was $25.00 per person, and this was in 1998.) Plus, no one I know wants to walk around these countries with a [censored]load of cash in their wallet.

We stayed a family resort, but there were plenty of places to get away from the rowdy kids. I wouldn't let that deterr you, especially if you aren't into all the adult "tomfoolery" that you'd see at a Hedonism-type resort. If you do end up going to one of those type places, please feel free to take a lot of pictures to share in the RR....but don't get caught - some women just have no sense of humor when it comes to hidden cameras....or so I've heard...

Also went to Ocho Rios and enjoyed it. All-inclusive is the only way to go.

I did Maui for mine, but it isn't cheap to get there. By far the most beautiful place I have ever been though.

I've been to traveling all around the Carribean and found that Peter Island is by far the best resort that I've ever seen. The resort is a whole Island, No Kids and private beaches. The packages do not include alcohol so keep that in mind if your a drunk.

I would recommend the all inclusive as well. Keep in mind the all inclusive usually only includes activities on the resort. If you don't really want to venture out from the resort, it does not matter, becuase you did not pay for that anyway it is extra. The nice thing about all inclusive is you don't have to worry about anything. You can order whatever food you want, whatever drinks you want, any time of day. It is nice after the stress of a wedding and all the expenses invovled to not worry about how much you are spending on every meal, or activity while you are on your honeymoon. Just the fact that you know what it will cost you before you even go is worth it.

I have been to a few places in the Carib too. I have gone to Ocho Rios as well, and would not hesitate to go back. Negril is nice too, a little more of a party area and a lot more single people. If you want to avoid all the horniness stay away from the hedonism type resorts, otherwise you will be fine. If you want something a little more laid back you can do San Lucia, or Tortola. There are really nice places on both of those that are pretty quiet. There are also some really nice places in the Dominican now that are fairly inexpensive.

Stateside, It depends on what you are into. Florida will be hot. I would go out to Cali. Possibly Napa Valley, Monterey Penninsula, San Fran type places.
