You could; however the points aren't automatically awarded. Someone has to actually decide to give them by clicking on the

in the upper right corner of the post. Anybody can give anybody else positive or negative reputation points. (i.e. If someone likes your comments and/or appreciates some help you gave them they may elect to give you positive points.) I think this thread slightly outdated; however it is still basically how it works.

Note: The red squares represent a "negative" reputation.
You can go to "User CP" on the top bar to see your actual number of points and who (last 10) gave them to you. The amount of points that you can give is proportional to how many you already have. (i.e. Someone with 6 gold buckeye leafs gives a lot more reputation points than someone with a couple green squares.)
