I searched for this topic already couldn't find a thing, lemme know if it has already been posted. I am shocked it hasn't been. The first I heard of this story was on Letterman and he said 450 MILE asteroid and I thought we were royally screwed.

Damn that would be 3 days before my birthday...figures. Honestly though I heard they were planning on blowing that thing out of the sky of altering its course of direction somehow.

as the article stated, the odds are currently 1-in-10,000. the odds will likely get a lot worse (or better, depending on how you look at it) the closer we get to 2036, as observation will yield conclusive results.

Didn't Nasa test a rocket or some kind of launch device that had a direct hit on a comet not too long ago?
