Dunno about Front Street, they have been over on Portage Trail since at least the early 90's. That's when my buddy joined the Marines and we were in and out of there all the time, and it has been there ever since.

One area stands out to me. Portage Trail down by Valley Vista. Was literally nothing there when I was a kid (except for the haunted beauty parlor) and now has 300k homes all over the place. Pretty pricey for the Falls.
Not sure when the recruiting offices moved. Used to be down at the end of the Front Street mall near Broad Blvd. IIRC, they were in the building closest to Broad. I believe that is where my brother enlisted to be a jarhead back in 88.
Yes, the Falls has significantly improved since I lived there. Was talking to someone at a meeting this morning who has lived his whole life there. We knew a bunch of the same families from one of the local parishes. He lives two houses down from his parent's house and two houses from his in-laws' house. Improved city, but I still prefer west Akron.
PS - I did not attend Falls public schools. And for the record, the name of Stow High School in my day was "Snow High" because of the drug use.
