There is a Henry Kurtz listed with the Florida Bar as living in Miami (and not currently a member of the Florida Bar.) This letter writing tool is from nearby Ft. Lauderdale. I hope to God these fools did not get convince some friend to write a scare letter when he is not admitted in Florida.

I'm sure the name is as fake as the address and phone numbers used. The letter was on watermarked high quality stock clearly intended for legal use, but also available at any box office supply store. The letterhead printed at the same time as the letter itself.

The whole thing is almost certainly some sort of fabrication. The author could have pulled the name out of his ass, could have known a Howard Kurz, could have adapted it from someone they heard of -- who knows. The postage identifies the origin of the letter, and the return address/information may provide enough insight (obviously someone was fairly familiar with it) to create a tie between Trey and the USB folk. Anyway, it's the Florida Bar's issue now, and just here for our amusement, and (more importantly) as a cautionary tale to would-be trolls.

We just got off the phone with him. He pointed out it's a 21-story building with a lot of offices, but he certainly seemed disconcerted that someone seems to be playing off of his name using the address of the building he's in.

Either way, he stated absolutely the letter's not from him. I should have asked him to spell "tortious," just in case.

It's amazing how many people don't realize just how much of their "personal and private" information is freely available on the web and even more of it is available for small fees, all of which is totally legal to achieve. Zabasearch, Peoplesearch, not to mention expending the effort to contact public records buildings directly, it's astounding how much information can be obtained. Peoplesearch nets me addresses and phone numbers for at least a decade back, any time the person I am looking for signed a lease, received a utility bill, etc, it's on there.
