The interesting thing is that they can know it is there having never seen it, by the way light is bent around the object or the effect of the objects gravitational pull. The [censored] the do with math really is amazing.
I had a friend of mine who was a math major at Miami, prove to me that a point has no dimentions while at the same time is you line them up, they create a line. It [censored]ed me up for years.

I'm guessing it is something that has only been theorized before and not observed directly.
Black holes, pulsars, neutron stars etc were all proposed long before they weer viewed.
