opinions on heat pumps
trying to get central air installed. fun part is i have an oil furnace that is a little over 10 years old. i haven't had any problems with it, but it seems my furnace is too large to fit an ac coil underneath it. blah blah long story short, quotes for heat pumps are about 1k less than the quotes for an oil furnace and central air combo.
doing some research and it seems electric heat is rather cold and far less effective than oil. also seems it might be more expensive than oil as well. curious to hear some first hand opinions though. does anyone here have a heat pump and what are your thoughts?

The use of a heat varies a lot dependant on the average temperature of the area you are in. The lower the temperate climate the less efficient a heat pump runs. For years they weren't considered feasible for use in Northern climates, (Ohio). Down there in Cinci and with advances made in the industry they may now be ok but you should be careful to research them. A simple explanation would be that the heat pump works by removing heat either f4om the outside or the inside and if there is less or no heat to remove from the outside air the less it can put into a house.

The in-laws have one in their house in Huntington, WV. I hate going there in the winter because the house never feels warm. If you stand by a register it just seems to blow out lukewarm air.

any type of heating or cooling device is only as good as the insulation you have and the types of windows...
