Despite all of the political pandering in the news with the upcoming election... we still have guys and gals overseas.

Having spent a year in Korea in the Army in the early 90s, any type of "care package" means a lot... After about 3 months you begin to crave anything from the States...

Visit AnySoldier.com and send something over... every little bit helps...
(If you're going to send food, beef jerky and sunflower seeds are great items when you're out in the field). Magazines, DVDs also help pass the time... (of course, there is nothing more American than football)...

That is a great idea. I'm also going to have my kids write some hello and Thanks for putting your lives on the line for us letters. Thanks just isn't said enough to soldiers from any era.

I just sent two boxes over to a friend of mine in the sand box. While I was at the post office, I saw and met a husband and wife. She was at the counter with a huge stack of custom forms. He was hauling in 2 huge, horizontal trolleys of UPS boxes, same as I was using, full of items for soldiers. They turned out to be the local reps for this AnySoldier charity. People are working very hard for this charity, it can use any help any of you can give it.

If anyone is interested in supporting a more specific group and want to know that their support is going to *guys at the tip of the spear there's also AmericanSnipers.org (they used to be adopt a sniper). I've sent quite a bit of my unused gear to guy's in the box through them to be put to good use.

The group also accepts donations (all proceeds goes to purchasing equipment for US Snipers) and have various geegaws they'll send in return (tan rubber armbands, hats, stickers, posters etc).

Regardless of which fine organization you may decide to donate through, send a quick note along as well. You'll most likely receive a very heartfelt thank you in return!

*Please note that this isn't meant to demean any other group or individuals proudly serving while deployed. Admin clerks in the sandbox work long hours, make the same sacrifices as and are just as deserving of a morale boost from home as the door kickers are.

My Soldiers work between 16 - 18 hours a day and get maybe 1 - 2 days off a month. We are guarding detainees in a very politicaly charged environment. ICRC crawling down our ass, detainees that lie trying to get guards in trouble, not to mention all the additional garrison crap that followed us here or problems at home. I must say that they do incredible under these stressers. But every once in a while it starts to get to them and you can see them starting to crack, we've hooked up a few Soldiers through anysoldier.com. It does more than most could know that there are civilians back home who care enough to dig so deaply into their pockets to provide a moral boost to us. Thanks to all who help. And fwiw, anyone who is thinking about sending a care package, think about sending indevidual packets of tuna, believe it or not they are about the most wildly popular thing, at least with my guys. I guess they're all trying to go home looking like Schwarzenegger.
