lets some up what you said real simple. this is a what 20, 22 and 23 year old kids who are nhl players today. they are nhl potential who should get better.

on the flip side you have richards, stanley cup mvp who played all year with mono has missed what 3 games his entire career?

i dont know how i feel about that offer or some of the other stuff.

i do know what 7 years, no playoffs, something has to change. with that track record ill say no one outside of the two netminders are untouchable...

I'd still do it. They have to get someone to feed Nash.

Not sure I want to spend 7M a year for a 70 point producer. I like Richards alot, but not 7Mil alot. If you want to spend that much, just wait until free agency and save yourself 3 players.

If you're close, then adding a Richards is a no brainer. If you're just close to making the playoffs, you're better bringing in a couple guys for 3.5 Mil each. Of course, I don't know who's available for free agency after this year.

At this point in the Jackets history, I would.

They need someone to set up Nash and Z. Richards hasn't had anyone with anywhere NEAR the talent of those two.

He hasn't had a good season since he was on the same line as St. Louis (the cup year). There's a reason for that, they've surrounded him with guys that SUCK because they mortgaged their future for that cup run.

IF the package columbus is putting together for him is true and accurate, that is most assuredly NOT what the CBJ would be doing here.

The 7M cap hit isn't that bad since Fedorov (6.1) is moving on after this season.

And yes Columbus would be right there in the East. Getting to play teams like Washingon, NYR, NYI and Philly would be a big benefit, not to mention Florida and Atlanta.

I'd add Nash to that list. Even Z could be moved if you get a haul in return.

IMO, this is a no-brainer. The addition of Richards makes the CBJ a playoff contender every year that he's here. With Federov gone, this is a definite upgrade for the money. We can always acquire a hard-hitting defenseman/enforcer type through free agency during the off-season.

One of the things I like is another shooter for shootouts. I am still sick over the loss to LA. I will be even more sick if that game costs the Jackets the playoff spot.

Personally, I think this is going to happen. It's a good trade for both clubs.

Agreed.

Columbus: a first line center it desperately needs to fit inbetween their two top scorerers

Philadelphia: cap room, two possible immediate starters/contributors, and a third to be a potential superstar

Win/win. It'll be interesting to see who gets the better end of the deal.

Blue Jackets: Foote, Richards deals still up in air

The Blue Jackets are offering Adam Foote a two-year contract extension worth $3.5 million annually. He's asking for $4 million per.



TORONTO -- As the NHL trade deadline looms this afternoon, Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson was juggling at least two major transactions late last night.
Howson and Rick Curran, the agent for captain Adam Foote, were trying to close a $1 million gap and agree to terms on a two-year contract extension.
If Foote isn't signed to an extension, he could be traded before today's 3 p.m. deadline, but only if he waives his no-trade clause.
There's a chance the Blue Jackets could keep Foote and risk losing him this summer, when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Blue Jackets goaltender Pascal Leclaire is as laid-back as a weeklong Caribbean getaway.
Bad goal? Botched defensive assignment? Silly questions from a reporter. No worries. It's all palm trees and tropical breezes in Leclaire's world.
"Nothing seems to bother him," left winger Rick Nash said.
Leclaire's serene attitude appears to be serving him well in the Jackets' frantic push for a playoff spot. He helped backstop consecutive victories last week in Ottawa and Montreal, where he blanked the Canadiens 3-0, playing just 20 miles from his hometown.

Stars front-runners for Richards

The signing of Dan Boyle was the first big piece of the puzzle that Lightning General Manager Jay Feaster needed to put into place in a game plan devised to help retool a team that sits last in the Eastern Conference and is all but assured of missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2001-02 season. The next piece could be moving Brad Richards. With Tampa Bay's big four locked into big-money deals - Marty St. Louis ($5.25 average salary), Vinny Lecavalier ($6.75 million), Boyle ($6.67 million), Richards ($7.8 million) - the math doesn't add up to retain all four players long term. While Canadian outlets have reported that Richards has submitted a list of teams he would be willing to waive his no-trade clause to move to, Dallas is believed to be the front-runner in a package that could include goaltender Mike Smith as the central player coming in return.

I'm going to be severely bummed out of the Jackets come out of this with their thumb up their butts. Richards would not only put this team in the hunt right now, but for years to come. Am I way off here?

What's your feeling on how this ends up. If the CBJ don't end up with Richards are there still options out there to shore up this team to try and make a run this year (Obviously this is the 11th hour)?
