leclaire, fritsche, picard, lindstrom, rome, wilson and methot go qualifying offers so their rights will be retained after july 1.
that means they got deals for 110% of their prior salary.
danny and pazzy have arbitration rights.

C'mon JO, we need some tidbits.
I read that Toronto is thinking of buying out 2/3 players since alot of them have NTC's. That seems a bit dumb considering they would count against the cap long after their contract would expire. Tucker reportedly won't waive his NTC so, if they buy him out, it would count against the cap $1M/year for 6 years. Do you know the specifics of how that buyout works?

saw this on a pens sight i visit, figured i'd post it here. I can see this helping both sides, especially if Pitt doesn't think they can sign them before July 1st.
CBJ - Pittsburgh Trade Rumor
June 11, 2008, 9:26 am
I don't normally put out a ton of trade rumors on my blog (I leave that up to Ek), but this rumor is being swirled around and it makes sense. The Jackets would get negotiation rights to Ryan Malone and Brooks Orpik for the #19 pick.
Pens are going to have to unload some salary especially if they have any dreams of keeping Hossa. There was already rumors that the Jackets were going to go after Malone after July 1st. This trade would keep out the competition and also get a shot at Orpik that would be a nice addition to the blue line. This would also give the Pens a 1st round pick when they might end up with nothing if they have to let them go any way.
Stay tuned in Columbus because things are starting to heat up. The rumors are starting to fly fast and furious. As you know when there is smoke, there's fire.
****Reviewing the Centers for the Draft will be coming this week.

tuckers deal would take 6m to buy him out and cap hit for 6 years.
it takes 2/3 to buy out a contract. this would allow tucker (33 year old) to go and play for 1.5-2m for whoever he wants.
but... keep in mind that the sharks made a play for tucker last year, who is the leafs new coach? wilson, the coach from san jose from last year.
darcy tucker wins if he gets bought out imo. is their leverage with the NTC, sure but that was part of the agreement. i dont blame anyone for failing to waive it. both parties agreed and so it shall be for better or worse.
kubina is on the block also. 40 pt dman with 24mins of ice time. good zie 6-4 245lbs and at 31 could be a nice pick up for someone.

two things
1-eric smith is ek's blogger for the jackets but is from pitt.
2-think flyers deal with hartnell and timo last year
3-while the rumor has legs eric smith has little cred with me...

It seems Tucker took a discount when he re-signed with the Leafs, but covered his butt but getting the NTC. Good for him. They seem to want to blow up everything in Tor, and start over with some high priced FA's like Philly and the NYR did. Of course, those 2 had some good young players to start with. Leafs fans have got some problems.
I read Eck's page just for blogs. Any rumors there I take with a BIG grain of salt.
No way if I'm the CBJ do I think about that. Give a first, even at #19, to negotiate for 2 1/2 weeks with 2 guys that have more attractive options ? No thanks. The only way they would sign is if you overpayed and they're not worth it.

tucker plays a game like peca. it ultra physical for a little guy they dont have much tread on the tire. not that they arent good players, they need to at this point in their careers be in the right situation. a good pickup for the right team.
the leafs are effed up. period the end. worse than the yankees for us americans. aged team, aged core. heck they havent been good in a while.
ek is good for random stuff. he is what he is.
they wont give up the pick unless they sign the two before july 1, just like philly. a top six guy like malone and bruiser like oprik dont grow on trees. id take it for one draft pick. the cbj have mentioned theyd like kto change 8-9 players in the form of trades, ufa, rfa, draft, and the system...
