only the idiots who know nothing about hockey want doug out. this is the brains behind building up the might red wings and the stanley cup finals panthers. he took a route that will take time.

statistically they won the game last night. out shot, out hit, won more face offs, etc. it has become im willing to venture the youngest team in profesional sports.

as far as saving gallant, i cant defend the guy. i wanted quinville to begin with though.

MacLean has had what, 4 or 5 years of unfettered reign over this hockey organization? They seem to be getting progressively worse......

listen, I realize that they appear "on paper" to be more capable this year, but there is something missing from this team that is hard to describe....but the intensity, the leadership, the sense of urgency....

I hope those areas improve soon or the community support is going to erode....rather quickly.

let's assume Gallant is replaced by December 15, then that leaves more than half the season for the team to climb into the playoff race. That should be enough time to get in there....if not, then MacLean has to look himself in the eye and wonder if he simply caught lightning in a bottle with the Wings.

I went to a game there a few years ago. Worst game I've ever seen, it was like 7-0 in the second and we just left. Also what didn't help was our location of seats, in the nose bleed section(I realize thats our fault). The parking down their is insane, we parked on the other side of the railroad tracks and it cost like $10. I think the team is cursed. I mean they built the damn arena on the site of the Old Ohio Pen. Which was also the site of a old cemetery. Worst place you could possibly build a arena, not enough parking, and just a bad site.

CBJ and Blues tied 1-1 in the 1st. The parade to the penalty box continues for the CBJ. 4 penalties in the first period already.

Blues drop to last place in loss to Blue Jackets

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- In a battle to escape the NHL basement, the Columbus Blue Jackets discovered the offense they'd been missing.

Aaron Johnson's first goal of the season snapped a third-period tie and the Blue Jackets ended a seven-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.

"It's big. These are teams we have to jump on," Johnson said. "If we keep playing hard against teams like this, eventually we're going to be able to play hard against teams like Colorado and get wins in those situations, too."

Manny Malhotra had a goal and two assists, Luke Richardson and Martin Brule also scored, and Jody Shelley had two assists for the Blue Jackets, who tied their season best for goals and leapfrogged the Blues despite getting outshot 34-19.

The Blue Jackets, who scored only nine goals during their losing streak and entered the game with a league-worst 40 goals, have 12 points and lead the Blues by one point. Columbus benefited from Johnson's third career goal in 31 games and Richardson's 33rd in 18 NHL seasons.

"It's huge for those guys to step up," coach Gerard Gallant said. "As we all know, we're last in the National Hockey League, so to come in here and get a win with other people chipping in is big for our club."

Barret Jackman scored his first two goals of the season for the Blues, who have lost three in a row while surrendering 15 goals. The Blues blew a one-goal, third-period lead for the second straight night, following a 5-3 loss at Minnesota on Friday, and have lost a franchise-record seven straight games at home.

"It's all for nothing, it doesn't matter," Jackman said. "I'd rather have no goals and not lose the game."

In the last three games, the Blues have been outscored 8-0 in the third period.
"I don't know what it is," coach Mike Kitchen said. "We sure have to improve in that area because we've blown a lot of leads."

The Blue Jackets scored in the opening minute of the first and third periods and matched their season best for goals set Oct. 21 against the Sharks. They won for only the second time on the road in 12 games, and won after trailing following one period for the first time in nine tries all season.

They also rebounded from a 5-0 loss at home to the Avalanche on Friday.

"It's big for our team," Gallant said. "We're a lot like St. Louis. We're struggling."

Johnson, a defenseman playing his second game of the season after being called up earlier in the week, scored on a power play at 9:56 of the third. Johnson pinched in from the left point and tapped a rebound past Curtis Sanford.

Jackman's second goal of the game, a wrist shot off a faceoff, put the Blues ahead 3-2 in the final minute of the second period.

Brule's second goal of the season tied it at 28 seconds of the third.

The Blue Jackets scored on the first shot of the game in the opening minute, a wrister from Malhotra from the high slot, but didn't test Sanford again for another 15 minutes.

St. Louis tied it on Jackman's first goal of the season, a wrist shot through traffic at 7:16, and took the lead on Mike Sillinger's power-play goal at 14:34.
Richardson's first goal since Feb. 27, 2004, a one-timer in front of the net off Malhotra's setup, tied it at 2 at 13:52 of the second.

Game notes
The Blue Jackets are 2-10 on the road and the other victory was 3-2 Oct. 9 at Chicago. ... Blues D Bryce Salvador was out of the lineup after taking a shot off a knee on Friday. ... Blue Jackets G Marc Denis missed his third game with a groin injury.

Jackets Claim Defenseman Ron Hainsey Off Waivers From Montreal

Place Defenseman Adam Foote On Injured Reserve



The Columbus Blue Jackets have claimed defenseman Ron Hainsey off waivers from the Montreal Canadiens, President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced today. Hainsey is expected to join the Blue Jackets in Minnesota for Wednesday night's game vs. the Wild. The club also announced it has placed defenseman Adam Foote on Injured Reserve retroactive to Nov. 23. Foote suffered a strained groin vs. Nashville on that date and is day-to-day.

Hainsey, 24, has appeared in 32 career NHL games, tallying 1-1-2 and six penalty minutes with the Canadiens. He collected two penalty minutes and was -1 in a career-high 21 games during the 2002-03 season and added 1-1-2 with four penalty minutes and a +3 plus/minus rating in 11 games in 2003-04. This season, he has registered 3-14-17 and 19 penalty minutes in 22 games with Hamilton. He ranks second on the club in scoring and is tied for third among American Hockey League defensemen in points.

Hainsey joined the Canadiens organization late in the 2000-01 season. In his first full professional campaign in 2001-02, he earned AHL All-Rookie Team honors with Quebec as he registered 7-24-31 and 35 penalty minutes in 63 games. Hainsey has spent parts of the past three years with Hamilton, including 2004-05 when he had 9-14-23 and 51 penalty minutes in 68 games. In 244 career AHL games, he has collected 29-87-116 and 151 penalty minutes.

Montreal's first pick, 13th overall, in the 2000 Entry Draft, Hainsey played two seasons at UMass-Lowell, where he was a NCAA East Second Team All-American and Hockey East First Team All-Star in 2000-01 after leading all league defensemen in scoring with 10-26-36 and 51 penalty minutes in 33 games. In 1999-00, he was a Hockey East All-Rookie Team selection after tallying 3-8-11 and 20 penalty minutes in 30 games.

A native of Bolton, Connecticut, he spent two years in the United States Development Program prior to attending UMass-Lowell. Hainsey also represented Team USA at the 2000 (1-1-2 in seven games) and 2001 (0-5-5 in seven games) World Junior Championships.

The Blue Jackets return to action Wednesday night at the Minnesota Wild. Game time is set for 8 p.m. ET with live coverage on FSN Ohio starting at 7:30 p.m. with the Ice Breaker pregame show. The game will also be broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship stations WBNS-AM Sports Radio 1460 the Fan and WWCD-FM, CD101.

Fedorov will become first Russian-born and trained player to reach milestone



Columbus Blue Jackets center Sergei Fedorov is expected to play in his 1,000th game of his National Hockey League career tonight when the Blue Jackets visit the Minnesota Wild at the Xcel Energy Center. Game time is set for 8 p.m. (ET). If he plays, he will become the 13th European-born and trained player to reach 1,000 NHL games and the 205th player overall to do so.

Fedorov enters the week having registered 431 goals and 591 assists for 1,022 points with 637 penalty minutes in 999 career games. He is set to become the first Russian-born and trained player to reach the 1,000 game milestone (Peter Bondra was born in the Ukraine, but raised in Slovakia and is listed as a Slovakian player). Among Russian players, Fedorov ranks first all-time in games played and assists and is second in points (two behind New Jersey's Alexander Mogilny) and third in goals (behind Mogilny and Pavel Bure).

The Pskov, Russia native made his NHL debut with the Detroit Red Wings on Oct. 4, 1990 at the New Jersey Devils and scored a power play goal in a 3-3 tie. Fedorov spent 13 seasons in Detroit, registering 400-554-954 in 908 games. He joined the Mighty Ducks prior to the 2003-04 season and tallied 31-35-66 in 85 games with the Mighty Ducks. He has picked up 0-2-2 in six games since joining the Blue Jackets on November 15.

That, however, is what they will be up against when they face Manny Fernandez and the Minnesota Wild at the XCel Energy Center.
Fernandez has had a very strong season thus far, leading the Western Conference with a 2.04 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage. He is 5-1-0 at home with a 1.80 GAA and a .936 save percentage.
Columbus, meanwhile, has scored a league-low 44 goals this season, and has only two wins in 12 road games.
The Blue Jackets ended a seven-game losing streak Saturday with a 4-3 victory at St. Louis, getting goals from unlikely sources Aaron Johnson and Luke Richardson.

Marian Gaborik scored his 100th career goal and also had an assist against the Blues in his second game after missing 11 due to a left hip flexor injury sustained Oct. 23 against Chicago.
Gaborik is seventh on the team with 10 points despite playing only five games.
The Wild are 7-2-0 all-time at home against the Blue Jackets and Fernandez is 3-1-0 with a 1.97 GAA at home against Columbus.
