COLUMBUS, Ohio - Veronica Jatsek, a junior from Walton Hills, Ohio, earned her second All-America honor in three months with a seventh-place finish in the hammer throw at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, Calif.

Jatsek earned seventh-place with a toss of 206 feet and 2 inches. Jatsek was one of only eight female throwers to top 200 feet at the NCAA championships. Jatsek, the Big Ten Champion in the hammer throw, adds this to her seventh-place finish in the weight throw at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships.

Former Buckeye Dan Taylor threw the shot put at the Prefontaine Classic.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Three former Ohio State track and field All-Americans competed Sunday at the 2007 Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Ore. Dan Taylor placed third in the shot put, while runners Rob Myers and Brian Olinger had seventh-place times in their respective distance events.

Taylor, a nine-time All-American thrower from 2000-04 at Ohio State, heaved the shot 68 feet, 9 inches for his third-place mark. Now a competitor for Nike, Taylor won a pair of national titles in the shot put and weight throw at the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championships.

Myers, also a Buckeye All-American from 2000-04, now runs for Reebok. He placed seventh Sunday in the Bowerman Mile in a time of 3:58.01. Myers narrowly missed a spot on the U.S. Olympic team in 2004 in the 1,500 meters after taking third at the 2004 U.S. Trials.

COLUMBUS ? If the NCAA offered a 600-meter hurdle race, Ohio State coach Robert Gary would be the first to enter one of his runners.
And his choice would be junior Elon Simms, a graduate of Fremont Ross.
?I think he could really concentrate on the 400 and be pretty darn good,? Gary said. ?He?s run some great legs on the [1600] relay. He wants to focus on the 800 indoors; he only ran it twice this year, and he ran a 1:51 the first time.

I keep braggin about the Ohio's state records and the track times at annual meets to these fellas in Jersey...

My youngest ran hurdles and the 200... and was very impressed with the kids that won our regional meet in the highs... yes, they were pretty good but I think 14.0 won the highs in the region...

So I looked up Ohio's times... hoping to find Larry Poole from Garfield back in the early 70s when I watched him run a 13.6 (and still weighed 225) at Kent... saw Ginn's outrageous times... something like a 13.3

Then I looked up Jersey's... and the record is 12. 9 !!!!

Nehemiah went to school in north Jersey... HS coach made him run college height in meets then added three more inches to keep him challenged...

The hurdles national record is interesting... depending on which source there is one of two national records...

12.9 (hand time) by Renaldo Nehemiah of Scotch Plains, NJ in 1979
13.30 (FAT) by Chris Nelloms of Dayton Dunbar in 1990

Ted Ginn Jr. ran a 13.28 his senior year but the record was disallowed because the tailwind was too strong.

Wow Great run!. I remember when a four minute mile was a dream which no one thought would ever be broken and now it's sub normal , go figure.

 COLUMBUS, Ohio - Dan Taylor, a two-time national champion and nine-time All-American at Ohio State from 2000-04, finished second in the shot put at the 2007 USA Track and Field Championships Saturday in Indianapolis. Joel Brown, also a multiple All-American at Ohio State from 2000-04, moved past the first round of the 110-meter hurdles.

Taylor, now a Nike competitor from Middlefield, Ohio, used his fourth attempt to reach 68 feet, 10 3/4 inches. Taylor placed second behind Reese Hoffa, the 2006 Indoor World Champion, and his toss of 70-5 1/4.

Brown cleared the hurdles in a time of 13.70, the 12th-best time in the field. The Nike sprinter from Baltimore, Md., will run in the semifinals at 12:50 p.m. Sunday.

Rob Myers, a multiple All-American from 2000-04 at Ohio State, advanced through the 1,500-meter prelims Friday. The Reebok runner will have a shot at the U.S. title at 2:40 p.m. Sunday.

NBC will show events from 1-3 p.m. Sunday. Meet information and event results can be accessed at USA Track & Field.

Olinger falls short in bid for berth in Worlds
Staff Reports

INDIANAPOLIS ? Fresno area resident Brian Olinger fell short in his bid to run in the World Track & Field Championships.
Competing in the National meet last weekend, Olinger finished 16th in the preliminaries of the 3,000-meter steeplechase and was unable to reach Sunday?s finals.
His time of 8:42.88 to fall three short of the finishing within the top 14 and a berth in Saturday afternoon?s finals.

A 2006 graduate of The Ohio State University and Ridgewood High School, Olinger runs for team Reebok.

Big Ten champion sprinter named to women's track and field/cross country third-team, holds 3.95 grade-point average
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Jenna Harris, a senior sprinter on the Ohio State women's track and field team, was named ESPN The Magazine Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Third Team Academic All-American Tuesday. The voting was conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Earlier this month, Harris, a multiple Big Ten champion and All-American, earned all-district status for the third year in a row.

A native of Somerset, N.J., Harris carries a 3.95 grade point average (4.0 scale) in marketing. She redshirted the 2007 outdoor season after winning the Big Ten 60-meter dash for the second time in her career indoors. Two weeks later, she added her first All-America honor while shattering the Ohio State record in the 400-meter dash (52.74) at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships. Harris will complete her collegiate career after the 2008 outdoor season. Harris, the 2005 Big Ten 60- and 100-meter champion, also was named Academic All-District IV in 2005 and '06. She was one of 13 members of the women's team named 2007 Academic All-Big Ten. Harris redshirted the 2007 outdoor season and will complete her collegiate career on the outdoor track in 2008.

Veronica Jatsek finished one of the most successful seasons by a women?s thrower in Ohio State history in 2007. She not only gained All-America honors in both the indoor and outdoor seasons, but also set a Big Ten record in winning the hammer at the 2007 conference outdoor meet. This summer, Jatsek is serving as an intern in her field of construction systems management.

When the time comes for Jared Hall to reflect on his track career, the Cleveland Heights senior and Ohio State recruit said he'd be proud to possibly be mentioned among stars such as Jesse Owens.
"They [Ohio State] don't have to name a stadium after me," Hall chuckled, referring to the former Buckeyes legend who won four gold medals at the 1936 Olympics. "But everybody knows about Jesse Owens, what he accomplished, what he stood for. I admire him."
But Hall, the defending Division I 800-meters state champion, might well be playing soccer instead of blazing by track opponents if not for Tigers coach Claude Holland, who noticed Hall running during an eighth-grade soccer practice at Roxboro Elementary School.

School: Cleveland Heights.
Notable: Hall, a Plain Dealer All- Star and Ohio State recruit, won the 2007 Division I state championship in the 800 meters in 1:53.10. He also anchored Cleveland Heights' victory in the 4x800 relay (7:41.17, a state record). He is the fourth-fastest returning 800-meters runner in the country with a personal-best 1:50.98, and became the fastest indoor 800-meter high school runner in the country last month when he topped Isaiah Ward of Detroit, 1:52.19 to 1:52.21, at the University of Akron's Rubber City Open.
On running: "I thank God every day for my talent. It's a blessing to wake up every morning and run. It would be a shame if I didn't make the most of my abilities."
