Attorneys: No DNA Match in Duke Scandal
By TIM WHITMIRE, Associated Press Writer
There is no DNA match between members of Duke University's men's lacrosse team and an exotic dancer who told police she was raped at a team party, attorneys for the team said Monday.
Citing DNA test results delivered by the state crime lab to police and prosecutors a few hours earlier, the attorneys said the test results prove their clients did not sexually assault and beat a stripper hired to perform at a March 13 team party.
No charged have been filed in the case.
"No DNA material from any young man was present on the body of this complaining woman," said defense attorney Wade Smith.
The alleged victim, a 27-year-old student at nearby North Carolina Central University, told police she and another woman were hired to dance at the party. The woman told police that three men at the party dragged her into a bathroom, choked her, raped her and sodomized her.
Authorities ordered 46 of the 47 players on Duke's lacrosse team to submit DNA samples to investigators. Because the woman said her attackers were white, the team's sole black player was not tested.

Something just doesn't add up here.

...and what sounds like a wasted one at that.
These kids could be guilty as hell. But it sure looks like that I believe their story more and more as the evidence comes in.
OK, so if this girl is lying, Duke just threw the #1 team in the country under the bus for what again? I know that you do not throw racial slurs to anyone EVER, and that drunk strippers are probably a no no, but that is not a reason to cancel the season. What a mess.
This is reason #1 why you have to let the wheels of justice turn and not make rash decisions even if you take some heat. I am sure that the administration will come up with some BS about we had to err on the side of safety. I hope the kids parents sue the [censored] out of them.

Just because she's a "dancer" doesn't give anyone the right to assault her (I know you didn't say that). She has as much right to be protected under the law as anyone else. Now, if it turns out she lied, then she should be punished herself, in my opinion, no doubt about it. I just don't see the motivation here...she's not going to get any money, the press she will get and has gotten isn't exactly overwhelmingly positive...I just don't see it. Hopefully it will all come out in the end.
As for Duke, well, everyone hates administrators...no matter what they do. Certainly, the sense of entitlement and the disturbing e-mail by one player indicate there is at least somewhat of a problem...I don't know, it was a no-win situation. There's NO WAY they could have done nothing...if players weren't punished immediately, and it turned out there was a gang rape, that the rest of the team basically was complicit in allowing to happen, the University's reputation would have been irreparably damaged, not to mention there would have been a riot amongst the female students and neighboring community. I don't know...it's a toughie.

Because they don't make any money for the university and they embarrassed the university horribly. Even without the rape, you still have a stripper party with underage drinking, racial slurs (reported by bystanders, not the stripper), and that email (enough said).
