Same goes for Chris DiMarco, whose mother died unexpectedly about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Not enough can be said for his intestinal fortitude, either.
Other thoughts:
Sergio got a great idea today of the vast gulf, mentally, between him and Tiger. Total discipline/focus vs. inconsistency/immaturity.
DiMarco had BETTER be on that Ryder Cup team!
Tiger won the tournament by playing his second shots from farther back than probably anybody in the field - disproving those who think he only wins because he "overpowers" a course. He surgically dissected that course today - it was a brilliant round of golf.
If Ernie Els could have hit his sand wedges within 20 feet of the hole this week, he might have won. I've never seen a tour pro miss that many greens with wedges. His distance control with them was really off.
One of the marks of a great golf course is the leaderboard it procuces - this was a true links style test and produced a great leaderboard - just like Winged Foot did, and like Augusta alwasy does. Medinah #3 will be set up almost just like a US Open next month - look for Furyk and DiMarco to be in contention again.

Tiger's style of play on the course mandated that he have many, many 40+ foot putts, you dont hole those very often.
If he had chosen to play the course like the rest of the field, he probably would have putted "average," but would have assuredly lost strokes elsewhere (bunkers, rough, etc.).
He was dominant though

Yeah that [censored] was out of control. On ever tee and green he had to readdress the ball. hopefully they will do something about that next year.

Tiger once again shows why he's the best professional athlete in all of sports, what a great showing this week.

Uh, no. He may be the most dominant "player" in his particular sport, but no way is he the best "athlete". When Tiger can swim a half mile, bike 25 miles, and run six miles non-stop with no breaks in between (like I did today in the Honolulu Tinman triathlon), then we can talk about him being an "athlete"...
