Those people are delusional to think he is worth that at this point in his career. Glad to see it finally get done. I'll be interested to see if this has any effect on his play. I'd hope he wouldn't show up mopey and whiny, but you never know with these kids. |

Good the more offensive firepower we have the better. I've seen to many games where we'll put up 3-5 points and still lose. Now if we can just get a solid defensive core we'll be in good shape. I have high hopes for Leclaire.

I'm sure both sides realize this is a business, know this is how the negociation process works, and have a short memory about what happened during the negociations. At least with a 3 year contact MacLean & Zherdev won't have to go through this [censored] again for another 3 years. |

Through 5 games:
The Rangers are 5-0 and Zherdev appears to be doing alright so far. He has 2 goals, 3 assists, and is +3. |

While that means they are winning the games they should, their next 3 are @Detroit, Dallas and @Columbus. If they go anything better than 1-2 in that stretch I'll be surprised. |

ZHERDEV STRUGGLES MAY HELP BLUESHIRTS AVOID ARBITRATION
PHILADELPHIA - There's an unintended consequence to Nikolai Zherdev's disappointing production that, unlike the winger's mediocre 19-31-50 numbers, actually stands to benefit the Rangers.
Barring a goal-scoring spree over the final 14 games, which the Blueshirts would more than welcome, the impending 24-year-old Group II free agent will not be in position to hit a salary arbitration home run should he fail to reach a contract agreement with GM Glen Sather before July 1. At his current pace, Zherdev will score 23 goals, three fewer than he scored last year for Columbus and four under the career high of 27 he established with the Blue Jackets in 2005-06. As such, though he surely will gain an increase over the $2.5 million per year he has earned throughout his expiring three-year contract, he's not likely to score a multi-year deal above the $3-$3.5 million range. anyway, tons of talent, not quite there mentally though. Sometimes I thought he lacked the killer instinct a guy like Datsyuk (Z is almost as good a stick handler) developed after his rookie year where he didn't want to shoot the puck. |

speaking of Zherdev, he just got rocked in the NYR-Philly game. Skating with your head down is always a bad idea....
and of course that pussy Pierre whines about fighting and why the NHL GMs are right to curtail it. |
