It's almost like the league designed the new rules with the Buffalo franchise as the prototype...they'd be mediocre under the older rules, I think, but I'm happy to take it.

I don't know about mediocre.....they'ed still be a playoff team because we still play solid D......

I don't think the goaltending would be nearly up to par as it was for Brodeur, Roy, Belfour in his prime...we just don't have that. Might make the playoffs as a 6 or 7...that's mediocre to me.
But as it is, they are probably the best in the league.

the schedule hasnt been all that tough, amazing no the less.
goaltending? i dont know how many guys match up wtih roy all time, not many. miller is a stud, he should have been team usa goaltender. biron is no slouch either, hed start for atleast 10 clubs.
best team in the league, probably. though it is october. its about being the best team come springtime.
all that said the team is a joy to watch, they play good hard solid hockey.

That was my point, the successful teams in the old days almost all had the big-time goalies...you don't need those anymore, so we're in much better shape to be an elite team in today's game. This team can win a whole lot of 5-4 games right now, but wouldn't win many 2-0 neutral-zone trap games against the old Devils of the late 90's, for example.
