It's not unreasonable to attend. The leagues' action sure as hell is though. Making them miss a game that actually counts for crap that most players who aren't media whores could do without is stupid.

This is the main reason the NHL is sucking hind teet. Not because of the rules but due to the complete tone-deafness of the NHL offices and officials in Toronto.

cap hits are pro rated based on days on the nhl roster. aka from recall to sent back to the minors. so 1/180ish (i dont know how many days the wings officially had this year).

managing the cap is something you have to do now. its part of the game. i think it should only get more interesting the next few years with a cap that is going to hold flat/lower as it seems now.

Sure thing. except now with their two highest paid players being suspended but still on the cap, Detroit gets screwed even more by a stupid rule.

Datsyuk got injured DURING the Phoenix game. Shane Doan even publicly said so when the suspensions were announced. Lidstrom has been hurt all year long.

Only the NHL would this big a deal over a stupid ass exhibition game virtually no one watches, but that's the NHL for you. Better yet, they are letting Lidstrom be dragged through the mud when he's only one of their best ambassadors of the game and best people in the game.

I'll laugh my ass off if Detroit still wins on Tuesday.

According to CBC the deal is supposed to be announced tommorow at 2 pm and the article states the deal could be up to 10 years and reach $70 million which would be the teams biggest deal ever. More to come tommorow.

Well, the article has since been updated and they're now reporting a 12yr/72m deal, 6m/yr cap hit.

Last few years could be a problem but for right now, and the next 7-8 years, I love the cap hit.

with 41.2m committed for next year 6m means 47.2m, with no backup/1b goalie, needs/holes are for hossa, sammie ufa, hudler rfa, franzen ufa, kopecky ufa. those guys combined (minus hossa) for about 3.7m in salary this year. id guestimate all of those guys would expect a hike of some sort. heck add in current salaries thats about 51m, and you still need to slot someone/something for hossa or pump up sammie and replace him.

cap currently is at 55.7m. ive heard slight increase, slight decrease and flat for this year. teams think that net change the next two years should be minimial (increase or decrease). so basically through the 2010-2011 not to expect the cap to change much.

Kopecky, Hossa and Sammy are likely gone.

Chelios is in his last year.

conklin is going to go as is Osgood probably.

They will probably re-sign Franzen. They'll take Hudler to the arbitrator and he'll probably get 1.5/2Mill per year since he's a step or so behind Filipula who just went through it.

I said it earlier in the year that this is the year the window closes for a true Stanley Cup run for a bit. Next year will be the youth movement.

Unfortunately, I completely agree. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if Ozzie sticks around at least one more year.

However... we still have the rest of the year to make a good run for it. And it would certainly be nice if we could beat the Jackets, I'm a little sick of them having our number.

Actually last night was the CBJ's first win against Detroit this year.

Look at it this way, this year's 'IT' team is Chicago and Chicago hasn't played very well against Detroit. Columbus has at least been competitive even if the results weren't there.

columbus is, unfortunately, built in the way that teams which have given Detroit problems in the past. They have good strong forwards who skate well enough to stick with Detroit's players and the scheme they use gets on the Detroit players and doesn't allow them the space to move the puck as efficiently.

I know, but it was the first time I'd watched them play this year. The last two games I've been to in Columbus have both been losses as well. I think it's a curse.
