No but one thing I will say is.............Crosby doesnt hold a candle to Malkin. Discuss

Or Flower when he's on OR Staal when the game is overly physical....Overall Crosby is better on paper, but certain types of games, especially when there is some tight checking going on lend to hurt his style more. 30 years ago he'd be near 200 points per year but in the current NHL he won't ever approach that mark with is style of play.

Crosby is lucky to have some great teammates around him who can take over games when he isn't producing.

It's no coincidence that the Pens were drafting #1 a few years ago before they had Crosby and now have a Cup.

I'd take Crosby over any player on the Jackets. (and that includes Nash)

In all honesty, I'd take Mason if he can continue to build on what he showed last year. As Broduer has shown us in New Jersey, if he can be solid between the pipes and the franchise builds the team to his strengths in goal, they can win consistently.

That said, Mason could end up with Jim Carrey disease and never be the same although I kinda doubt it.

It isn't a coincidence that Pittsburgh sucked before Crosby, they didn't have a player near his caliber.

But now they do and, as I said, in certain games and situations, some of his teammates are more suited to the task than Crosby is.....just about every player is like this though, only a few (Ovie, Malkin and Iginla come to mind first and foremost, which, by the way, are the 3 forwards I place ahead of Crosby purely from a paper standpoint), are able to rise above it.

i thought he was overrated?

(personally i dont think it happens even with the 4-5m 10 year deal. the wings dont have enough cap space and still need a few roster players to round out at roster.)

not in 13-14 that is in question.... (crosby will be a ufa that summer and malkin will be in his last contract year)

I'd rather see the Wings go with the younger guys now and then be ready to go for a couple more Cups starting in 2011 or so....just like around the 1999 timeframe....

Things get interesting next summer. Lidstrom's contract is up, he's always said he may give it up after this contract and Rick Nash will be out there

lidstrom is done. hes on the decline, that was evident for the first time during the playoffs this year. the hossa deal you and i both know would be redic lenght front loaded just like the wings other contracts requiring a retirement along the way...

the issue is what if those guys dont require and then buy out and the impact there. like ive said the big markets when a newer amendment to the cba for buyout/trade friendly terms.

+1 on that.

You can go back thru the list of Stanley Cup champs, and there will be no more common thread than a money goaltender. Since expansion, there have been relatively few teams who went all the way without an all-timer between the pipes. Parent, Dryden, Smith, Roy, Fuhr, Brodeur, those are all clear HOF. Even Barasso, Richter, Vernon (CGY & DET), Giguere, Belfour, Osgood, Hasek, Joseph, were top goalies in their time. The only SC winning goalies I can't name off the top of my head are BOS with Orr (top 3 player all time), and CAR. Just to make the finals, you need at least a hot as hell goalie (Kolzig, Beezer, Potvin, Hextall). I don't see Mase going out like Carey, but goalies are a special breed, so you can never tell.

Lidstrom had a ruptured ball for the last two rounds. He wasn't the same player, but come on. I don't think he's done. His game isn't dependent on strength or speed, so I think he could have a few more years in him. It depends on how he recovers, and his desire to play in the league. Let me know the details of the vbet (Lidstrom? Nash? Cups in 11-12?), and I'll take it.
