Women?s Hockey: Liana Bonanno Named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week.

Junior goaltender recognized for the first time this season

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Junior goaltender Liana Bonanno of the Ohio State women?s hockey team was named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced Wednesday. It is the first weekly honor for her this season and third recognition of her career. The Buckeyes have earned five conference player of the week awards this year.
Bonanno limited Minnesota State to just two goals in a sweep of the Mavericks during Ohio State?s final home series of the season, Feb. 15-16 at the OSU Ice Rink. She stopped a combined 41 of 43 shots faced in the two games for a .953 save percentage in 3-2 and 4-0 victories.
The native of Mount Sinai, N.Y., was on her way to recording her third shutout of the season Saturday, stopping all 20 shots faced in her 51 minutes before being replaced by Jill Mauch on senior day. Bonanno allowed only one power play goal to the Mavericks as she helped the Buckeyes to a 12-of-13 mark (92.3 percent) on the penalty kill.
During her freshman season, Bonanno was twice named WCHA Rookie of the Week. This is her first defensive weekly award.

Ohio State Golf: Buckeyes Sweep Big Ten Golfer of the Week Awards
WOW
Ladies Golf Link

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Ohio State swept the Big Ten Golfer of the Week awards with Carling Coffing of the women?s team and Patrick Simard of the men?s team earning the honors, the conference announced Wednesday. It is the first weekly award for both. The last time a Buckeye earned the weekly laurels were Dana Je in April 2006 for the women and Colin Biles in April 2005 for the men.
Coffing has led the Buckeyes in both of their tournaments so far this spring. After tying for 45th at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge (Feb. 11-13), the native of Middletown, Ohio, closed the Central District Invitational (Feb. 18-19) with two rounds of 72 to tie for third with a score of 5-over 221. She improved her tournament average by four strokes between the two events and the tie for third was her second-highest finish of her career. Coffing now leads the team in stroke average with 75.8 in 11 rounds this season.
