John Ealy led the Buckeyes with a sixth place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The 30th-ranked Ohio State men's cross country team finished fifth Saturday at the 2007 NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships in Bloomington, Ind., improving four spots from its ninth place finish in 2006.

Ohio State turned in a combined score of 167, finishing behind Indiana (111), No 22 Notre Dame (76), No. 23 Michigan (68) and No. 4 Wisconsin (68).

The Buckeyes were paced by John Ealy's sixth place finish with a time of 30:52.31. Ealy will now qualify for the NCAA Championships for a fourth-consecutive year.

Finishing second for the Buckeyes was junior Jeff See, who came in 16th with a time of 31:18.83. Taylor Candella finished 32nd (31:46.67) while Alex Bailey and Andy Arnio rounded out the scoring for the Buckeyes, finishing 56th and 57th, respectively.
Notre Dame's Patrick Smith finished first with a time of 30:22.44, 16 seconds ahead of second place finisher Matt Withrow from Wisconsin.
The official NCAA Championship selections will be announced Sunday.

Ohio State earned its 11th NCAA Championships selection Monday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The 30th-ranked Ohio State men's cross country team received an at-large bid to the 2007 NCAA Championships on Monday after finishing fifth at the 2007 Great Lakes Regional Championships this past Saturday.

This is the sixth time that the Buckeyes will head to the NCAA Championships since 2000, which is third-most among Big Ten teams. This will be the 11th time the Ohio State has competed in the NCAA Championships overall.

- The Ohio State men's track and field team opened its 2008 indoor season Friday inside Kent State Field House with a 91-56 victory or the Flashes in a meet.

"I was very pleased with the team tonight," head coach Robert Gary said. "This and next week's dual (Michigan) meets are great ways to get our team together and get a good idea of where we're at."

In sprints for Ohio State junior Matt Comer took the 200m title in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 21.63. Comer was not finished as he went on to score another five points for the Buckeyes by winning the 400m in a time of 48.34. Defending 200-meter Big Ten champion, senior Anthony Cole won the 60-meter dash in a time of 6.86 and placed second in the 200m with a time of 21.75.

All-American runner Jared Hall of Cleveland Heights has orally committed to Ohio State's track team.
"It was a tough decision, but I wanted to become a Buckeye," said Hall, who praised Tigers coach Claude Holland. "Coach Holland has been like a second father to me and my teammates. I'm looking forward to becoming a leader and bringing OSU to the top."
Hall, a Plain Dealer All-Star, also considered Georgia, Texas Christian, Miami (Fla.) and Penn State, among other schools. His finalists were OSU, Penn State and Pittsburgh.
