Columbus, Ohio ? The Ohio State University Department of Athletics and the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion will host the Big Ten Women?s Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 21-23. The meet represents the eighth major event hosted by the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in its third season of operation with more events still to come this year.

Big Ten championships hit water today at OSU

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Starting today in the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, Ohio State will serve as host of the Big Ten women's swimming and diving championships. If the Buckeyes aren't careful, the guests might take most of the hardware when they leave Columbus.
Ohio State finished eighth in 2007 and the top five teams from last year's meet all occupy spots in the top 25 poll produced by the College Swim Coaches Association of America.
The Buckeyes, sporting 12 freshmen and 11 sophomores, could be in for some tough love this weekend, especially after losing top swimmer Samantha Cheverton, a freshman from Lachine, Quebec, who dislocated a knee last week. She's hoping to be ready for the NCAA championships March 20-22 and the Canadian Olympic trials April 1-6.

March 21, 2008
COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 21. IN front of a partisan crowd in her home pool, Ohio State's Chelsea Davis dominated the three-meter event at the NCAA Division I Women's Championship.
Davis tallied 365.85 points to become only the second OSU diver, and the first in 21 years, to win the three-meter crown. Previously, Kim Fugett won the event in 1987 with 550.70 points.

Women's Swimming and Diving: Davis and Alvarez Finish 1-2 on 3-Meter at NCAA Championships
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State's Chelsea Davis and Bianca Alvarez claimed the top two spots on the 3-meter springboard Friday at the 2008 NCAA women?s swimming and diving championships held at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
"I am so thrilled for Chelsea and Bianca," Vince Panzano, head diving coach, said. "After a disappointing finish at the Big Ten championships, it is so great to see both come back and dive so well."
Davis entered the final round on the 3-meter after finishing fifth in the preliminaries with 335.95 points. The junior from Columbus captured her first NCAA title with a score of 365.85.
"I am so happy to be here in this position, especially after Big Tens," Davis said. "It is great to be able to show people what I can do here in the finals. And to win for Ohio State at home is awesome."
Alvarez qualified for the finals after finishing second in the preliminaries with 339.65 points. In the final round, the freshman from Miami, Fla., edged out the third-place finisher by 1.35 points to take second by a score of 354.50 points.
"Seeing my teammate hit all her dives made me want to get up there with her," Alvarez said. "It was an incredible experience."
