DALIAN, China (AP -- American sprinter Tyson Gay says his hamstring is feeling better and he'll be healthy and ready to go when the Olympic 100-meter races start next week.

"When I step on the line in Beijing, don't worry. I'll be ready to go," Gay said Monday before departing for China from Munich, where he had been training.

He has decided to fly to Beijing and skip going to the U.S. Track team's training camp in Dalian because he wants be at Friday's opening ceremonies. Qualifying in the highly anticipated 100-meter dash starts Aug. 15.

Gay, the defending world champion in the 100 and 200 meters, hurt his hamstring early last month at U.S. Olympic trials while running in preliminary heats in the 200 meters. He already had qualified for the 100. He pulled out of a race in London on July 25, saying he wanted to rest to ensure he was healthy for the Olympics.

Wow. What a performance! That is the most impressive sprint I've ever seen. He just destroyed the field with the ease, looking like he was putting forth the effort of your average baseball player running out a ground ball.

I had read about the result earlier in the day, but that didn't make watching it any less entertaining.

An amazing Olympic performance.

It reminded me of Bob Beamon's 29' 2.5" long jump 40 years ago in Mexico City, and Michael Johnson's world record 19.32 in the 200-meter final in Atlanta.

I was going to say the same thing, except not the fastest 40 yards within his race, but instead his initial 40 yards. Based on the 4.38 40-yard start for Ben Johnson's 9.79 world record 100m time at the Seoul Olympics, Bolt's first 40 yards would probably be around 4.35.

Still nowhere near as fast as Morgan Trent...
