bluntly put? disparity of revenues. like baseball the wings/leafs etc were spending well in excess of the current cap when for instance a team like columbus what 8 years ago in their first season spent 18m in payroll. payroll differences of 4 or more times.

but yes, if they fail they fail. the nfl has failed all over the country (la comes to mind and all the mixing and moving of all franchises really-dodgers, giants, cardinals lakers, etc) it is just that hockey appears to be behind the growth and expansion of nearly every one of the major league franchises...

I can't see how the Leafs and Sabres would not raise holy hell about a team moving to Hamilton.

The Canadian teams have been doing better since the dollar went to [censored]. It's moving back up again so we'll see how that affects them. It wasn;t that long ago that Edmonton was screaming from the rooftops about the league economics, not hearing much anymore.

I agree that Wisconsin would be a great place for NHL hockey.

Judge rejects sale of Coyotes to Canadian billionaire

The Coyotes are staying in Phoenix, at least for now. A bankruptcy judge has rejected the proposed sale of the franchise to Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie, who would have moved the team to Hamilton, Ontario.
Judge Redfield T. Baum issued a 21-page ruling late Monday afternoon, concluding the June 29 deadline imposed by Balsillie did not allow enough time to resolve the complex case.

both offers are based on keeping the team in glendale (as most buckeye fans know a 'remote' burb of phx-think football stadium/hockey arean built in marysville) the basillie offer was about 64.5m more and contigent on moving the team to hamilton.
