Confederations Cup - Who wins?
From each group, two teams will advance to the semis on June 24/25.
The winner of one group plays the runnerup from the other group in each semi, then the winners of those games play for the Cup. Group A: South Africa Iraq New Zealand Spain Group B: USA Italy Brazil Egypt Last edited by BB73; 06-12-2009 at 12:41 PM. |

You've got that right.
Brazil beat Egypt 4-3 on a PK at the end of regulation time. They were up 3-1 at the half, gave up back-to-back goals within a minute of each other early in the second half, and then got the PK by Kaka to win it. The PK was as legit as it gets. Off a corner, the ball was kicked just inside the post about 4 feet off the ground. The keeper wasn't near it, and the Egyptian defender who was standing about a yard away from the post leaned a little, and stuck an arm out to clear the ball, which hit him just above the elbow. The interesting thing to me was that the referee initially signaled another corner kick for Brazil, who protested of course. After the replay was shown, he red-carded the defender and awarded the PK. I don't know if he got help from the assistant referee on the sideline, or whether somebody told him the call into his headphone, since he was wearing one. I don't think FIFA will admit to the call coming from off the field, but it looked to me that it might have. |

I'm excited for the US today. No they may not perform well (at all), but I'm glad they got into this very tough competition as a good warm-up for the 2010 WC. It will be a good test to go against 3 top teams in the world (and maybe even advance to play some more... ). I'll be wearing my US jersey and cheering hard. I think our National Team often plays to the level of the competition (both good and bad), so while they may get "embarrassed", it also would not surprise me to see them get some results. Two out of the three teams in the group are as top class as it gets and Egypt is a very very good squad as well, but the US knows how to play physical, smart, hustle, and cause problems for opponents. I hope they come out fired up and not scared, but either way it should be a learning experience for next year. USA! Last edited by OHSportsFan9; 06-15-2009 at 01:47 PM. Reason: wrong team |

Vuvuzela - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
They are vuvuzela's. Get used to it for the World Cup. I find them very irritating but these guys blow them from start to finish. |

The two groups aren't exactly equal in difficulty. The worst team in USA's group, Egypt, might be better than the three other teams in Spain's group.
But one of the analyst made a good point, if your USA you love the group you're in. It benfits them much more in preparing for the World Cup, Spain is really getting nothing from the games in their group. Last edited by osuteke; 06-17-2009 at 02:45 PM. |

The SA game is being played in Rustenberg, in the middle of nowhere. Kind of like being played in Logan.

The fans there seem to be very into the game, even when their team isn't on the pitch. The World Cup there next year should be very exciting. |
