generally speaking no, players are prorated based on days of the season they are on the big club. if you paid attention the last two years youll have noticed young darren helm has not played in the regular season yet was a playoff regular, why? no cap in the playoff and the wings are nudged up very very tight to the cap. i even believe they had nights when they didnt even call up kids for healthy scratches this winter.

the nhl cba is relatively complex but i think that lays out a basic concept.

I think an Eklund rumor is confirmation that the particular rumor is not going to happen.

I think Howson denied the rumor. I saw some people at HFBoards saying that an Edmonton person called Howson and he said there was nothing to it, fwiw.

It's already been reported by both teams the Hawks offered Brian Campbell straight up for troubled Sens LW Dany Heatley. Anyone willing to take on that baggage and that contract from Ottawa's willing to wheel and deal with said player.

not a surprise there, like a foreign player signing with the yankees or dodgers (or i guess now the mariners?)

dont know, doubtful. that being said with these contracts beinig signed i think we will begin to see non cap teams take these guys a few years down the road on the decline when their cap hits are high but their salaries are lower (heatley has 31m in 5 years of actual salary left after his 4m 7/1/09 bonus).

pronger today signed a 7 year 5m per cap hit deal that will have him under contract til after his 42nd birthday...

I'm sure they've offered Campbell for a lot of people, but I don't think it's likely that anyone's going to be willing to take Campbell's contract. That's what I meant by my comment.

That's going to count against the Flyers even if he retires before the deal is up. The new contract won't begin until after he turns 35. It's not like the Hossa deal, or most (all?) of the other really long deals that are front-loaded contracts.

If so, potentially very stupid move by Philly.

hes 35 by june 30 (i think thats the date maybe its the 29th) of the contract starting, so i dont think theyll be on the hook for it. that being said hes still under contract until hes 42 and he would have to retire to get out of it. so basically would you walk away from Xmillions at the end? its pronger, it could be a real sticky/ugly situation....

The person who told me said that he'll be 35 by the time the new contract starts, since he still has a year left on his current one.

I don't know how all this stuff works.
