17-year old Melanie Oudin took out #4 Elena Dementieva in 3 sets. Could meet Sharapova in the next round.
Oudin took out Jankovic at Wimbledon. She'll be a seeded player fairly soon. She does have a leg injury that's been bothering her. |

Jankovic got beat in a 3rd set tiebreak today. The top half of the Women's draw is wide open. Gotta believe the final will be Serena vs one of the 3 top Russians - Safin, Sharapova, or Kuznetsova.
The powers-that-be really should have dropped Safina to #3 in the seeding to allow the possibility of an all-Williams final, regardless of what the computer says. |

Always a competition of who can choke less.

Oudin took out Sharapova, Kvitova took out Safina on a 3rd-set tiebreak, and Clijsters just knocked off Venus 6-0, 0-6, 6-4.
It looks like Serena and Kuznetsova should make the finals, but there have been an awful lot of unlikely results. |

Melanie Oudin is going through more Russian women than a drunken sailor at a Brighton Beach massage parlor.

I am having a difficult time in determining who is an amateur or a professional in tennis at what they can really receive to retain their amateur status. Is Melanie considered a professional or amateur

Oudin is a pro. Here is a segment from an interview with Tennis.com, August 13, 2009. TENNIS.com - Features - Short and Sweet: Q & A with Melanie Oudin Quote:

Between the date of a player’s 17th birthday and the day
before her 18th birthday, a player may participate in: (i) A maximum of 16 Professional Tennis Tournaments; plus (ii) The WTA Tour Championships (if she qualifies); plus (iii) Fed Cup (any level of competition). |

Serena goes out in bizarre fashion, to say the least. Clijsters moves on the final at 24/1, and with no vmoney on her.
