Didn't see a thread started for the season that's about to kick off, so here it goes.

The last sentence warms my frickin' heart. It's far, far overdue for the administration to stop marketing Ohio State hockey as a family event for Columbusites and start marketing it as a student event. Now, if we could just get a hockey specific 10K arena built.

that would be the ideal scenario but it's not going to happen unfortunately. Hopefully, the free tickets will get more students interested in the hockey program.

I'm really excited for the team this year, and can't wait for Friday. Won't be able to make it on thursday.

Albert, and Dalpe should be huge studs this year running with the top 2 lines. Matt Bartkowski is another sophmore who will be fun to watch. He led the team a couple times in scoring last year as a defensemen

Can't wait to see how Dusty Carlson does with a year under his belt as well.

I truly hope Markell worked their asses off on the power play unit. This was our biggest weakness last year and the only word for it really was sad.

i dont see that happening anytime soon. granted i think as hitch flatly stated weve seen hockey take root in columbus. its amazing to me to hear stuff around town, even this summer at lunch/dinner around town id here people talking about forechecking, backchecking, etc. weve begun to see people grasp the basics and understand the game. its no longer about a cheap date (osu hockey) or flashy displays and impressing a chick (cbj) its becoming something that is taking root in columbus. no, it will never be football, yet you can see a sort of blossom. when im eating lunch and i hear hockey talk (not at the table im at) in july, thats telling. that being said this growth is rooted in the guys carrying the flag, not so much the scarlet and gray. yet i think like minn/st paul you can have both. i think on the back of #61 and company (mason, brassard, jake, etc) youll see this over the next generation. weve seen the first central ohioan drafted (then head of to college down in oxford) [and ill be frank and honest it was a token late round pick, not in the sense that any pick is worthless but when youre like the last guy taken, well...]. youve seen it in pitt, what the jagr, mario crowd did in an explosion of youth players and expansion of the fan base. i think youll see a similar result here in columbus.

Seems to be some movement towards a Big Ten hockey conferece, with Minnesota being the only solid no vote.

you need six schools for an automatic ncaa bid (i dont think it is reasonable or smart to go forward without that)

the article mentions giving notre dame a spot. i think driving/forcing either penn state or iowa towards a program (along with maybe ill) are essential instead. i think 2 of those make it a real possibility. just from a personal opinion, not knowing much or any of the inner workings.

Down the road, we'd definitely need Illinois, Purdue and Penn State (all of whom have strong club programs) to make a commitment to jump to D1, This would most likely entail, for Title IX reasons, a women's program too. Penn State has the revenue stream to make this happen. Not so sure about the other two.

That's why you have the talk about bringing in Fredo, BG and one or two of the directional Michigans. I'm not crazy about this arrangement because it opens up a whole can of worms with the Ohio and Michigan legislatures when the time comes to kick them to the curb and move to a true Big Ten league.

Bringing just ND in makes the most sense but leaves a real nasty taste in my mouth. The Big Ten has been admirably steadfast in their "all sports or no sports" stance with the domer administration. To allow their hockey program into a Big Ten conference, would create a really bad precedent as well as removing a big bargaining chip that we might be able to use in the future to bring them fully into the conferece. Also, after their bull[censored] stunt in the late 90s, I don't think too many Big Ten presidents or faculties are looking to do the domer administration any favors.

Young freshmen/sophomore talent has breakthrough season and makes the NCAA tournament.

Great things expected following year.

Those talented freshmen show no improvement--they've regressed in fact. Season quickly goes down the tubes.

OSU Hockey=Groundhog Day.
