STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Jeff See ran a third-place time of 25:07.3 to lead the Ohio State men's cross country team to a second-place finish Sunday at the 2009 Big Ten Cross Country Championships.

Two weeks after finishing 165th at the Indiana State Pre-Nationals, See, the reigning Big Ten Runner of the Week, more than redeemed himself with a spirited effort in his final conference championship. The senior from Middletown, Ohio finished just seven seconds behind All-American Hassan Mead of Minnesota and only two seconds behind Eliot Krause of Wisconsin.

While See was the star of the day for Scarlet and Gray, earning first-team all-Big Ten honors based on his performance, Ohio State put together its best team effort of the season to take the runner-up spot, the highest finish from a Buckeye squad at the conference meet since 2005. Sophomore Taylor Williams finished 15th overall in a time of 25:44.8, an 11-spot improvement from his 2008 finish. Senior Christopher Olinger ran his best race of the year to take 19th in 25:53.6, one spot ahead of sophomore Adam Green (20th in 25:54.6).

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Running against some of the nation's top collegiate athletes, a young Ohio State women's cross country team finished in eighth-place Sunday at the 2009 Big Ten Championships.

Led by junior Jordan Jennewine, who earned second-team all-Big Ten honors thanks to a 12th-place finish in 21:02, the Buckeyes showed a tremendous amount of improvement from 2008, when the team failed to place a runner in the top 30.

"Jordan ran very well today, but as a team we were not at our best," distance coach Chris Neal said after the race. "Obviously, it is a tremendous accomplish for Jordan to become only the third runner in school history to earn all-Big Ten honors."

Sarah Foster, the Buckeyes' top finisher at the conference championships a season ago saw an eight-spot improvement in her final standing from 2008 - the junior finished 27th in a time of 21:29. Senior Katie Williams (21:40) and junior Ellen Birmingham (21:42) were next up for Ohio State, finishing 36th and 37th respectively.

A step in the right direction and only 14 points away from 6th place. Should be a good building block for a team that returns 6 of their 7 top runners next year.

Side note: Winner Bridget Franek (Penn State) and runner-up Angela Bizzarri (Illinois) are both from Ohio and are two of the elite runners in the nation. Both have a shot at the top 10 at Nationals this year.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Jeff See ran a first-place time of 31:03.16 to lead the Ohio State men's cross country team to a third-place finish at the 2009 NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships Saturday.

With the win, the Scarlet and Gray clinched an automatic berth in the NCAA championships Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind., their first trip to the national championships since 2007.

See's victory was the first for a Buckeye runner at the 10k regional championship since 2005, when current Ohio State assistant Brian Olinger won the event in a time of 30:51. See used a 5:01 pace to edge a pair of Wisconsin runners for the title.

"Jeff obviously led the way for us today and is finishing up his cross country career at OSU in a fantastic way," head coach Robert Gary said after the race. "He has been strong for us all year and just seems to be getting better as the season goes on."

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - There's a first time for everything.

Jordan Jennewine placed fifth-overall and five Buckeyes placed in the top 35 as the Ohio State women's cross country team clinched its first ever trip to the NCAA championships with a second-place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes regional finals Saturday.

"I have never been more proud of a team that I have coached," Ohio State distance coach Chris Neal said after the race. "These girls worked hard all year knowing that it would pay off. Today, our team was at its best."

Two weeks after taking 12th at the conference meet, Jennewine picked up where she left off, cruising to a 6k finishing time of 21:03.56, a 138-spot improvement from her 2008 regional finish.

Sarah Foster, the Buckeyes' top runner at the regional meet a season ago, took 14th in a time of 21:31:36, a 14-spot improvement from 2008. Junior Ellen Birmingham completed a 62-spot improvement with her 22nd-place run of 21:41.70.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Senior Jeff See was named the 2009 Great Lakes Athlete of the Year Wednesday afternoon by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

See's first-place run of 31:03.16 at Saturday's 10k Great Lakes regional finals helped Ohio State to a third-place finish overall and secured a spot for the Buckeyes at the NCAA championships, their first since 2007.

"Jeff is having a great cross country campaign - he is rounding into better and better shape as we continue through the championship season," head coach Robert Gary said of his star senior. COLUMBUS, Ohio - The 2009 cross country season will come to a crescendo Monday, Nov. 23 when the Top 31 teams in the country run for a national title at the 2009 NCAA Division I Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.

Among those teams will be the Ohio State Buckeyes, making their first appearance at the national championships since 2007. Led by 13th-year head coach Robert Gary, the Scarlet and Gray has enjoyed one of the more successful campaigns in school history this fall, finishing second at the Big Ten championships and third at the Great Lakes regional finals.

Senior Jeff See, the 2009 Great Lakes Athlete of the Year, has been the unquestioned leader for the Buckeyes, finishing in the Top 5 in five out of six races this season while winning individual titles at the Great Lakes and All-Ohio championships. Taylor Williams, a sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, has been a reliable No. 2 runner for Ohio State, finishing in the Top 15 at both the conference and regional championships. Sophomore Adam Green and senior Christopher Olinger bring experience and depth to the Buckeye roster, while freshmen Donny Roys and Julian Meyer have proven to be solid contributors as well, despite their relative inexperience at the collegiate level.

Indiana State University will host the 10k championship race at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Complex. COLUMBUS, Ohio - For the first time in its 28-year history, the Ohio State women's cross country team will compete for a national title Nov. 23 at the NCAA Division I Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.

It has been a remarkable turnaround for the Buckeyes, who, under the guidance of head coach Karen Dennis and distance coach Chris Neal, have burst on to the national stage a year after finishing 13th at the Great Lakes regional championships. Under their tutelage, Ohio State finished second at the 2009 Great Lakes championship Nov. 14 and also took home its first All-Ohio championship in 18 years in early October.

Much of the Buckeyes' success can be attributed to the dedication of juniors Jordan Jennewine, Sarah Foster and Ellen Birmingham. Jennewine has enjoyed an outstanding junior campaign, claiming an All-Ohio championship second-team all-Big Ten honors and a fifth-place finish at the Great Lakes regional finals. Foster and Birmingham have been two of the most consistent performers throughout the season for the Scarlet and Gray, posting regular Top 30 finishes. The addition of senior Katie Williams, a former runner at the University of Michigan, and talented freshman Victoria Brink has added tremendous depth to a young but gifted roster.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The final chapter in a record-setting season for the Ohio State women's cross country team was written Monday afternoon at the 2009 NCAA Championships, as the Buckeyes finished 29th in their first-ever trip to the national finals.

"Today was not the best day we have had this season, but the girls all gained some valuable championship experience," distance coach Chris Neal said after the race. "I am very proud of all they have accomplished this season."

Katie Williams led the Scarlet and Gray in her final cross country race as a collegiate athlete, finishing 107th with a 6k time of 21:33. The senior brought valuable championship familiarity to Terre Haute, having finished 188th at the 2007 NCAA finals as a runner at the University of Michigan. Junior Jordan Jennewine, fresh off a fifth-place finish at the Great Lakes regional championships, finished just behind Williams with a 112th-place time of 21:35.

Juniors Sarah Foster and Ellen Birmingham, All-Regional selections alongside Jennewine, finished third and fourth for the Buckeyes - Foster crossed the finish line in a time of 21:42, good for 125th, while Birmingham finished at 146 with a run of 21:54. Freshman Victoria Brink rounded out the scoring for Ohio State, taking 183rd in 22:26, while junior Ashley Chirco (187, 22:30) and sophomore Sarah Lowe (197, 22:50) concluded the Ohio State effort at the championships.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Ohio State men's cross country team completed its 2009 campaign with a 21st-place finish Monday afternoon at the 2009 NCAA Cross Country Championships, the highest finish from a Buckeye squad since 2005.

Senior Jeff See led the Buckeye charge on the 10k course, earning All-American honors with a 28th-place finish in a time of 30:17. It was quite a turnaround for See, who finished 165th just over a month ago on the very same course at Pre-Nationals.

"I thought that we had a great championship season," head coach Robert Gary said after the race. "Jeff receiving All-American honors certainly led the way. He has been phenomenal for us all year, and his cross country success should serve him well for the upcoming track season."

Sophomore Taylor Williams was once again a reliable No. 2 runner for the Scarlet and Gray, finishing 73rd in a time 30:50. Fellow second-year runner Adam Green was next up for the Buckeyes at 115 with a finishing time of 31:22.

A freshman and senior rounded out the scoring for Ohio State - Donny Roys came in at 133 in a time of 31:29, with Christopher Olinger two seconds behind at 135. Freshmen Julian Meyer (184, 32:31) and Cory Leslie (199, 33:14) also competed for the Buckeyes, but did not factor into scoring. Coach Gary was encouraged by the efforts from his younger runners:
