| Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate. |

Stem cell showdown: Senate to pass, Bush to veto
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20060718/D8IULJBG1.html
The Senate is close to having the votes to override the veto (have: 63, need: 66) so we'll see what happens. Amazing this of all things would be his first veto.

"The simple answer is he thinks murder's wrong," said White House spokesman Tony Snow. "The president is not going to get on the slippery slope of taking something living and making it dead for the purposes of scientific research."

The stupdity of people like Dumbya and his right wing retards is comical. Of course, these same people spent day and night saving the "life" of a human vegetable whom they cared more about than those stranded by Katrina.
I wonder why these same idiots don't feel so strongly about opposing in vitro fertilization. Maybe because it's political suicide to tell infertile couples that they can't have children.
The Roman Catholic Church is opposed to in vitro fertilisation in all instances and advocates that infertility is a call from God to adopt children. It "infringe[s] the child's right to be born of a father and mother known to him and bound to each other by marriage."[8] Also, embryos are discarded in the process causing them to die. Some estimates of the numbers of embryos killed reach 6 million, and the Catholic faith sees embryos as human lives with the same rights as all others. Therefore, the faith views this procedure as always unacceptable. However, it allows the use of more natural techniques which seek to treat the underlying causes of infertility.

This whole embryonic stem cell research should be left entirely up to private enterprise. That should be the litmus test as to the true validity of its promise and practicality.
If private enterprise is not willing to invest in it, what does that say about the chances of success?
Adult stem cells are where it's at, baby.

So we should leave all science to the private sector? The litmus test for the worthiness and validity of science should be profit potential? That's a frightening thought, as a scientist, I must say.

Taking a living thing and making it dead is OK for political purposes, I trust.

Private enterprise isn't interested in success or failure. Just whether or not they make a profit. Scientists are the ones who care about the two...well, those that aren't Korean anyway.
