| Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate. |

What would a credible 3rd Party's platform entail....
Here is a question for all the moderates/people who are sick of things w/ both party-what sort of concrete platform positions would you
A-like to see a legitimate 3rd party have
B-think a legitimate 3rd party would need to succeed
Obviously it would probably be a mix of fiscal conservatism/social liberalism-but how much to win? Also, what about foreign policy-do they say "no war unless Iran launches a nuke, or a dirty in Chicago", or do they take an aggressive position? Foreign policy/national security is the overriding concern for a lot of voters. I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on this....

I would imagine a balanced budget, less wasted foreign aid and less military presence overseas, especially in Western Europe, more military presence on and more staunchly guarded borders in our own country, less being the world's policeman, focusing more on intelligence gathering and agressive protection of our own country, somewhat libertine social policies on things like sodomy, gonja, and flag burning, targeting the demand side instead of the supply side of the "drug war", more investigation of alternative fuels so we aren't Saudi Arabia's bitch, moderately less of both taxes and social services, though some redistributing of the tax burden and the social service targets, more tax breaks for responsible child rearing, less tax breaks for big businesses and multi-millionaires, elimination of the estate tax, legal abortions in the first two trimesters, tort reform in the healthcare system that targets the current state of it being cheaper to settle out of court than to go to court to defend oneself, health insurance available to small businesses, and allowing the states to decide a great deal more issues than they currently do.

Sign me up for that party my friend! That's what I'm talking about, I'm sure that there are plenty more in this country who agree.

Start with honest term limitations, i.e. 2 terms & out no matter.... I would see a moderated libertarian party without the "rough edges". Taxation reform would also be key in popular support in addition to border controls.
