Gerald Ford epitomizes the sad state of American health care...
Putting a pacemaker and cardiac stents in a 93 year old. Uh, we all have to meet the Grim Reaper sometime. Just sad.
And we wonder why health care spending is so grotesque.

How does this make health care sad? If I could live for ten more years and see more grandchildren because I have the means to do it, I should be able to do so. Right?

"Sad" is a bit over-the-top (surprise, surprise), but I actually tend to agree with Tibor on this one. Throwing hundreds of thousands of dollars at octagenarians and up would have to be considered a questionable gesture by most reasonable people. I'm pretty healthy and follow a solid pattern of nutritional intake. I can't envision myself artificially extending my life in this manner. I'm not sure what the repercussions are if we can extend the average "healthy" human's life-span to 120 years when he is not really productive after 70. That's a lot of time of livin' off the Man. Don't know what Gerald Ford's situation is, but I imagine it's taxpayer funding to keep him going, and that's what it is going to be for a lot of folks.

And.. no.. I don't want to make theat 1 vs 3 vs 5 vs 10 decision...
But... at some point.. I mean... theres a 50% cahnce he's gonna croke just from the surgery, no?
