One thing I will say about anyone, Hillary and President AWOL included, who wants to be president has to be very aware of the very real possibility that some nut job is just waiting for you out there. In that sense, Hillary lives/lived with the notion that there is a sniper out there looking for her, but then so has everyone else on this campaign trail.

I've heard it said that the threat of assassination was one of the reasons Colin Powell turned down the offer to be GOP front runner.

You know, if I were a McCain supporter, and really I'm not at this point, but if I were, I'd be loving every minute of this primary.

He doesn't have to play in the mud. Hillary is throwing literally everything at Obama and I DO agree he's parrying nicely on most of it but it has to damage him in some way anyway, even if it's with the Clinton die-hards in states like Pennsylvania and Ohio. In what looks to be a very close election yet again, those bigger states are crucial.

She's acting like a 5 year old (if I can't win you won't either) and somehow getting away with it to a certain extent.

She said that Chelsea was jogging around the World Trade Center on Sept. 11 and happened to duck into a coffee shop when the airplanes hit. She said that this move saved Chelsea?s life. But Chelsea told Talk magazine that she was in a friend?s apartment four miles from ground zero when the first plane hit. Her friend called her, waking her up, and told her to turn on the TV. On television, she saw the second plane hit, disproving Hillary?s claim that ?she heard the plane hit. She heard it. She did.?

So why did Hillary make up the story about Chelsea? Most likely to was because her co-senator (and implicit rival for the voters? affection), a real New Yorker, Charles Schumer (D), spoke of his daughter, who attended Stuyvesant High School, located next to the Trade Center, being at real risk on Sept. 11. Hillary needed to make herself part of the scene.

She invented the entire story on national television, the ?Today Show,? and didn?t blink an eye

The Washington Post reports this morning that 20 "top fundraisers" for Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign yesterday "upbraided" House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for suggesting last week that Democratic superdelegates "should back the candidate with the most pledged delegates and urged her to respect the right of those delegates to back whomever they choose at the end of the primary season."

DailyKos does a little snooping around to see just who these backers are... which really shouldn't surprise anyone.

All of these signers are multi-millionaires, with most worth in the hundreds of millions. A few of these signers are billionaires. Many of these donors have had previous positions in the Clinton Campaign. Mark Lasry is a security trader who put Chelsea Clinton on his payroll. Stanley S. Shulman was on the board of Newscorp for 22 years. Sim Farar was a Representative to the United Nations. But for the purpose of this diary, I am going to highlight in detail the records of 4 of the donors on this list that I think best represent who these donors are, and why they are a threat to the Democratic party.

Well, at least they aren't hiding the fact that Hillary supporters will buy this election if things don't go her way.

But all these years I have been told that Bill Clinton's presidency was good for the economy, now he's one of the individuals most responsible for the current mess? I'm so confused...

That's alright. I'd be disappointed if you were anything but confused.

Clinton did preside over a decent economy that was a mile wide and an inch deep--productivity gains not being passed on to consumers, tech stock bubble, NAFTA.

While he and Rubin did have their all-star moments (the response to the Asian/Ruble meltdown; organizing the Wall Street bailout of LTCM) they also, in the service of Bill Clinton always putting his own political survival ahead of his party or any of its principals, signed off on the repeal of Glass-Steagall and turned a blind eye to the "shadow banking" sector that created much of the environment (i.e. lack of oversight) for the combination of bad judgment and abuses that have landed us in our current situation.

This criticism is nothing new. Clinton was excoriated among liberals for signing the repeal of Glass-Steagall with just these kinds of dire results predicted. The idea that all Democrats worshiped Bill Clinton and felt that he could do no wrong is far, far from the truth. I've always viewed him as a weak, ineffectual president who always put his own personal survival first no matter how much damage that did to the Democratic party.

Being a loyal member of a party that tends to create blind cults of personality around its leaders (Bush Sr. the sole recent exception), I wouldn't expect you to understand that some can actually think for themselves and find critical fault with the leaders of their own party.
