| Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate. |

I guess charisma is a bad thing? What draws people to Obama is the fact that when he talks, he seems logical........ After 8 years of Bush, and watching McCain on the stump..........it's refreshing.

b) I wasn't born at the time Churchill etc made those speeches and Reagan's speech was not broadcast here. Muck, just note that I also didn't include the Rivonia Trial speech (see below) which dwarfs all of the speeches that you noted, in my opinion. |

For the record, I was poking fun at MuckFich's typo that Obama's campaign ran a budget in the 100s of Billions of dollars. But Dr. Evil does have a lot of executive experience himself.

I originally posted this in the Palin thread but it probably belongs here:
What has Obama done besides write two books about himself? The man has voted "present" over 100 times in his short career- you can't do that when you're the boss - and his cry of "I opposed Iraq from the beginning" is hollow because he wasn't even in the Senate at the time. Pretty easy to claim a position after the fact when you never had to actually cast a vote. Then again, casting votes isn't his favorite thing to do, given all of the "present" nonsense. Again, what has he done to lend credence to all of the "hope and change" rhetoric? What has he led? What decisions has he made? |

During the President's rhetoric leading us to an escalation with Iraq, the war was enormously popular, this was the time Obama voiced his opinion that maybe we were being a little hasty. He was right and deserves credit for his judgment. He has a number of bi-partisan bills in his short time in the US senate, including nuclear proliferation with republican Lugar as well as Ethics Reform. His books were pretty good too. |

Obama's first book was a memoir of his life through that point - it was a highly interesting book about his life story (now committed to many people's memories) from being the child of a single mother through his early political career.
His second book was some personal reflection and alot of his views on issues. Give 'em a try, Jake ![]() |
