I do not feel this way and I feel bad saying it, but it is true. This country is not ready for a female president. Many Democrats everywhere, not only the south, do not feel comfortable voting for a female, or an African-American for that matter. As ridiculous as it is, it's true. In addition to that, no one really knows where Hillary stands because she constantly changes her beliefs for whichever way the wind is blowing. As far as Bayh goes he is a great candidate for VP. This election for Bayh and Obama will probably not end up with them in the White House, but will definetly put their names out there for years to come. That is the only thing that keeps people like John McCain in these elections. He would never win a primary but I'm sure that is for another thread.

I agree and it's quite embarrassing. Nations as "advanced" as England and as backwards as Pakistan have had female leaders and yet it won't happen in the US for a long time.

But then again how many black/ female republicans would vote Dem if they ran? It would be a give and take scenario I think.

Not many. Every Republican female I know hates Hillary more than most men do. As far as black republicans go, I highly doubt they are going to vote for a Democrat solely because they are African-American. If you are black republican there are some pretty strong convictions you must have to be a conservative and I don't think they would hop over the ailse just to vote for an African-American.

Agree. While a more moderate Democratic female candidate might draw some Republican votes, I'd bet on record turnout among registered Republican women for the express purpose of keeping Clinton out.

I put the middle name in there because, as you well surmise, IMO there will be voters who will not vote for him because that is his middle name. You know that and I know that. It is just another possible reason for him to not win. In that vein I think including his name is justified. I already know I am not going to vote for him. So I don't care what his middle name is.

If our country is shallow enough to not vote for someone because of their color, gender, or the fact that the candidate has a middle name that is shared with a dead former dictator, it's sad. Then again, the American public isn't very hard to sway.......Bush somehow garnered the popular vote once.

The election is shaping up to be more about voting people in or keeping them out on everything but their political convictions. Definitely sad. It's going to be a looooong election cycle.
