Yeah. The "If we can't beat em, join em" attitude is so much better.

They aren't going to like us any more than they do now regardless of who wins.

Outsiders have a very different view of our nation. They don't want us to be as prosperous as we are. They want to see the downfall of the American Empire. So, yeah, when their opinion is that they want to see Obama in charge, its for their interests, not ours. Just as I'd like to see Terry Bowden as head coach at Florida State. He's a horrible [censored]ing coach and would assure Florida State would never be a power again. That's the philosophy of people from other nations when it comes to our president.

They want a democrat in office. So they can get the Bill Clinton response to a terror attack. They attack our Navy and kill Sailors, Clinton lobs Tomahawks at a few tents in a desert. McCain would go after their ass. They certainly what they don't want.

They'd much prefer a Carter or Clinton reponse.

Actually, I have come around on the idea of following the lead of our allies. After all, France, Germany, and Canada have all elected the more conservative candidate to lead their nation in their most recent elections. The UK appears to be headed the same direction next year with Cameron.

Think of the arrogance of us Americans to go with the more liberal candidate at a time where world opinion/action appears to be going the other direction.

In my opinion, an "us against the world" mentality isn't a productive or practical way to go about handling business in an increasingly globalized world community.

The international opinion went from a near all-time high to a near all-time low in just a couple of years. Can you tell me with a straight face that W had nothing to do with that? Of course not everyone in the world will like the US, no matter who is POTUS, but having one that doesn't constantly give the finger to the rest of the world will only help our perception.

Personally, the Europeans view is going to do nothing to persuade or sway me from voting for a candidate in the U.S., but both the thoughts that they (Europeans) have our best interest at heart and that the world just recently started hating us because of Bush is laughable.

That was solidarity with the citizenry, and with the people who lost their lives in particular, not the American government. We were not exactly tops on everyone's list on September 10th, and we were going to return that way soon afterward, Bush or not. Certainly the Iraq war exacerbated that process, but the so-called "solidarity" was temporary, if it actually existed.

You have a point about many first world nations electing conservative government leaders, but I don't think it's that cut and dry. For one thing, I believe the definition of conservative varies from country to country. Some of the principles may be similar, but I haven't seen any indication that conservatism abroad has been taken over by religious zealotry as it has here. Other governments also offer multiple parties from which to chose. In some cases, there may be parties that are actually more to the right of the "conservatives". As far as the US going against the international trend, we are still electing individuals. A candidate's party affiliation does not correlate to their quality (not inferring anything). Politics also tend to ebb and flow. While other countries may be moving towards conservatives in contrast to their previous governors, we may be moving towards the Dems just to try something different. One things certain, no matter who's in charge, there will be many people who are unsatisfied.
