| Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate. |

And I also think that the Republican Party has diverged from their core principles somewhat purposefully based on Karl Rove's strategy of mobilizing the base through the use of hot button issues such as abortion and gay marriage. The Republicans bit off a lot in the past eight years based on their confidence over winning election using the Rove strategy, they lost site of what governing is all about with big dreams of regime change in the middle east and various other things, and now they are choking. And just as a little side note, I'll believe small government when I see it. I'd like to see a list of things that Republican Presidents have done (even Reagan) to reduce the size of the federal government... it wouldn't be a very long list. Oh, and just one final thing, what got them there eight years ago may not work for Republicans anymore since Bush seemingly turned an entire generation (my generation) pretty solidly Democratic, or at the very least not solidly Republican. Which is another reason why the party needs to do some serious soul searching if they want to be competitive in upcoming elections, at least in my opinion. Katrina hit - Bush's fault. It took Bush days to really react. Anecdotally, in one of his first public addresses, he strangely focused on Trent Lott's house... FEMA (like just about every other government organization) has a chain of command that has to be followed to get the right people in the right spots. Nagin couldn't even get his own evacuation plan in place before the Hurricane and Blanco was an even bigger mess. FEMA isn't blameless, but President Bush, short if miracling the coordination like Obama clearly can and would (
), didn't have much to do with it.The WTC attacks occurred - obviously Bush's fault. Bush, in response, attacks the wrong country - still hasn't caught Bin Laden - Afghanistan was the wrong country??? China and India have more than doubled their oil intake over the past decade - this is more of Bush's fault than anything else. This is a problem, but wouldn't be quite as scary if we had an alternative energy plan. Not solely Bush's fault, but his administration hasn't done anything for alternative energy...and neither did Clinton....and it's not like congress has come up with anything since 2000 either....but let's bankrupt the coal industry, just to make the energy crunch that much worse.... My dog ran away - Bush's fault - Sorry, this one is true. The bastard!!! |

Not being facetious, but did you just say people shouldn't for who they thought would be best for them. If not your statement is nonsensical.

that isn't what I meant...the 95% of Americans getting a tax cut is great but it could possibly be VERY misleading, b/c a tax cut does little for someone who just lost their job.

would we need that extra 25% in DOD spending if we weren't bleeding money in Iraq. Doubtful.

Interesting interpretation of a douche.

Cowboy hats are fine, if your a rancher. The closest he does to ranching is moving brush piles while the media watches.

I thought he was a redneck in tight with the oil industry.
