| Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate. |

Kind of funny that you characterize titling a thread with Obama's full name as a lame pot shot, yet you're not above making such jabs at the American public or our current president.

No. At least not this time round.
For several reasons: 1. He is a senator. Name for me the last President to come straight from the Senate. 2. He is too green still. 3. He has not taken a definitive position on anything at this point. As trite as it sounds, he has talked the talk, but he has not walked the walk. |

I do admire your astute attention to detail though, I was waiting for someone to mention the irony of my statement. FWIW wasn't Lincoln inexperienced when he was elected president? Last edited by daddyphatsacs; 01-21-2007 at 11:42 PM. |

Exactly. At the time of this next election it will have been almost 50 years since that last happened.

Are Obama supporters really worried about the middle name thing? Seriously, everyone knows that only assassins, serial killers and southern quarterbacks are called by their full name in the media. Everyone else gets a pass.

This country was founded by Puritans and that influence runs old and deep!

The first comparison:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...08.html?sub=AR "Yet if Clinton and Obama present different profiles, they are, in certain respects, very much alike. Both have displayed an unusually sophisticated and apparently genuine understanding of the role of religious faith in American politics. Both pride themselves on their ability, proven in their home states, to win over political moderates and voters not tethered to ideology. And the woman who would become the nation's first female president and the man who would become its first African American president know how important the men and women of the white middle class will be to the outcome of the next election. Such voters will probably determine if either of them gets to become a national trailblazer -- and also if any other Democrat can find a way to get in the middle of their fight." |

I don't think he can win the nomination because I think Hillary will be too strong. He's carving out a position on the left side of the party but Edwards has already taken up residence there and it might be difficult to gain any traction against Hillary when many voters will hear the same things they've already heard from Edwards. To be sure, Obama has great PR skills. However, in primary debates I believe Hillary will have more substantive answers and I think Obama will struggle to counter them. However, Obama may end up being the Howard Dean of this election, dragging the other candidates farther left than they had originally planned to go.
