| Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate. |

General Patraeus has got it covered:

But the point I made on that issue was: just because it's not being covered in the media does not mean that it's (deaths in Iraq, etc...) not happening in large numbers. Your other two points were sufficiently answered by the other two guys though, I feel. |

Did McCain violate McCain-Feingold? The DNC thinks so and is filing a complaint in court as the FEC is not ruling. Wouldn't that be the definition of irony?

Gotta tell you, ekeen, the results blew me away. They ran programs showing how Palestinian kids were instigating most of the problems in the West Bank by attacking the Israelis and bringing schools and other kids into harm's way. They showed the rocket attacks and squarely pointed at Palestinian leadership as responsible for not stopping them. There were a number of programs showing balanced coverage of things like the Iranian speedboats approaching US ships. One program interviewed moderate Muslims in the middle east who rejected al-Qaeda. They even had a very good story on John McCain, his record as a politician who works across party lines, his heroism in the VietNam war, and his family's military history. They have recruited top BBC and CNN personalities to broadcast the news and were surprisingly more comprehensive in their coverage and the insights they provided of world news. If you prefer the "33% to human interest stories and banter, cue laughter, fade to banter between weather girl and presenter" formula, you won't like them. |

Truth be told the DNC probably has meager expectations for winning this point - more to the point it is not clear to me that they really wish to do so. If this suit fails it still provides the DNC with all the talking points needed to lay out their "McCain was for public financing only before he was against it." If the DNC wins the suit then it puts a stranglehold on McCain's purse strings even as he is painted back into the corner of abiding by the spirit and intent of McCain-Feingold. Even in that instance McCain's side will have to argue in favor of a position that undercuts his prior maverick advocacy of campaigns free of the taint of big money. Wonder if, as an ex-military man McCain recognizes a good pincer movement when he sees it - I suspect he does, and knows that there is substantial political flack to be served on this issue, whether the DNC fully outflanks him or not. |

Is this going to be one of those new internet phenomenons like "Chuck Norris facts..." or "Al Gore invented..."? |

Much of the discussion in the Obama thread has focused on McCain and his "straight talk" and knowledge of the economy. As these concern McCain, I post these here. Ms South Carolina makes a cameo appearance in the second video to help McCain answer a question from Ron Paul (I think).
![]() In fairness, if I get a chance, I am going to try to find a couple like this for Obama and Clinton. |

Others, though disagree, including former Democrat Joe Lieberman. Here is a continuation of the discussion that started in 'BusNative's post but, now that the link no longer works, casts McCain in an unfairly biased light. It is very possible that what angered McCain is that Grassley wanted to abandon any possible POWs remaining in VietNam. I think a lot of us would have backed him up on that one. Quote:
