The McCain campaign is fond of citing the candidate's prominent role in public debates over foreign policy through the years. But John McCain's regular TV appearances have also made it wickedly easy to track his inconsistencies and erratic statements on key issues of war and peace.

Take the wisdom of the Iraq war. Before his campaign, Sen. McCain argued that without weapons of mass destruction Iraq didn't pose a major threat and war therefore didn't make sense. On June 8, 2006, for example, he told Fox News "if we knew that he [Saddam] had no weapons of mass destruction, obviously then probably we would have continued with the sanctions." Fair enough. Disarming Iraq was the major benefit of the war and the costs have been astronomical: thousands of U.S. soldiers lost, tens of thousands wounded, $600 billion spent, respect and trust for America damaged.
But on Jan. 6, 2008, when seeking to lead the pro-war Republican Party, Mr. McCain had a different view. On "Meet the Press," Tim Russert cited President Bush's view that even if we knew Iraq had no WMD "I still would go into Iraq to topple Saddam Hussein." He asked if Mr. McCain agreed. The answer: "yes."
Mr. McCain has also been inconsistent about whether the threat from Iraq was inflated to justify the war. After U.S. troops were unable to find WMD, Mr. McCain insisted on MSNBC on Sept. 17, 2003 that "I never said that it was a quote, clear and present danger because of weapons of mass destruction." But on at least three occasions in the run-up to the war, he said exactly that. On March 3, 2002, he declared on CNN, "I believe that Saddam Hussein presents [a] clear and present danger to the United States of America with his continued pursuit to acquire weapons of mass destruction." In December 2001 and January 2002, he used the same "clear and present danger" phrase on both Fox News and CNN.
Mr. McCain also tried to have it both ways when it came to the difficulty of the war. At a press conference that was aired on CNN on Aug. 22, 2006, he said, "We had not told the American people how tough and difficult this could be." The public, he added, was "led to believe this could be some kind of day at the beach."

1-Denial-"this can't be happening to me" not accepting or even acknowledging the electoral loss.

2-Anger-"why me?", feelings of wanting to fight back or get even with McCain/Republicans for electoral loss, blaming them for losing.

3-Bargaining-bargaining often takes place before the loss. Attempting to make deals with the Democrats, or attempting to make deals with God to stop or change the loss. Begging, wishing, praying for the Republicans/McCain to win.

4-Depression-overwhelming feelings of hopelessness, frustration, bitterness, self pity, mourning loss of the Presidency as well as the hopes, dreams and plans for the future. Feeling lack of control, feeling numb. Perhaps feeling suicidal.

5-Acceptance-there is a difference between resignation and acceptance. You have to accept the loss, not just try to bear it quietly. Realization that it takes two to make or break a country. Realization that the Presidency is gone (after eight long years of Republican bliss) that it is not their fault, they didn't leave you on purpose. (even in cases of monumental campaign baboonery, often the candidate was not in their right frame of mind) Finding the good that can come out of the pain of loss, finding comfort and healing. Our goals turn toward personal growth. Stay with fond memories of George Bush.

McCain and his vice presidential running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, repeatedly questioned Obama?s ties to William Ayers, a co-founder of the Weather Underground, which claimed responsibility for a series of bombings in the 1960s and the 1970s.
In the NBC interview, parts of which the network is airing over three days ending Friday, McCain went out of his way to tie Ayers to Obama, a senator from Illinois. At one point, he changed the subject back to Ayers when Williams asked him about an unrelated issue.


Palin resisted the suggestion that if Ayers was a ?domestic terrorist? ? a standard line in her campaign addresses ? then so were conservative religious activists who bombed abortion clinics.
?I don?t know if you?re going to use the word ?terrorist? there,? she said. ?It?s unacceptable, and it would not be condoned, of course, on our watch. But if what you?re asking is if I regret referring to Bill Ayers as an unrepenting domestic terrorist, I don?t regret characterizing him as that.?

So this is all the McCain campaign has left, "That one's a terrorist!", and Joe the Plumber? This campaign has just been painful to watch. It's too bad, because McC could have been a very good candidate. Not saying that the election is over, but McC's needed a big surge for a few weeks now, and has gone in the other direction.

If Mac wins, we will see the most divisive four years since Vietnam. Since he has chosen the path of Ayers and "real Americans" in lieu of more substantive issues, his victory will be the start of Obama's supporter's undying hatred of his administration - one that will make republicans dislike of Bill Clinton look tepid and tentative. A democratic majority will spend its efforts in making McCain's political life a living hell. He will get no appointments. Special prosecutors will be appointed to criminally investigate republicans administration officials at all levels.

I hope Obama wins because I do no think we can take it if he loses in a close race with voter purging irregularity allegations. We well might see Watts again, and Birmingham church style bombings in retaliation

Now try to find a John McCain outpost in Bucks County. Armed with an address, you'd get an unmarked, low, stand-alone office building on a four-lane state highway 15 minutes' drive from here. On the front door a small sign directs visitors to the McCain campaign around the corner and down the stairs to the basement. Two volunteers man phones, McCain posters or signs aren't readily available. Three paid staffers direct the Republican's campaign from a single office in this critical battleground.
Mr. McCain probably can't win the election without Pennsylvania. And both campaigns think it will be decided in the four "collar counties" around Philadelphia. Of them, Bucks (pop. 625,000) is a microcosm of the state. Rural northern "upper Bucks" is socially conservative, clinging -- as Mr. Obama famously said this year -- to guns and religion; the center around Doylestown is fiscally conservative and socially liberal, once dominated by Republican "moderates"; and "lower" Bucks around Bristol is blue-collar, formerly industrial, depressed, and tends to vote Democratic.
