What principle? And yes taxes do redistribute wealth to some extent. And they shouldn't. Taxes should go toward paying for the country's infrastructure. Not to pay for welfare, not to pay for insurance, not to pay the unemployed to stay away from work, and definitely not to fund pork. And as you say, it is currently going to pay for failing insurance companies and mortgage firms, businesses that should not have been lending money, or financing homes, or whatever, to people with a poor lending score. Taxes shouldn't pay for poor business decisions - period.

Obama and the rest of the Dems have already promised to curtail the "temporary" tax break done by the Bush administration. And even if Obama keeps his word (he is a politician after all) to lower your taxes, his tax cut won't be as large as the one that he will allow to expire.

wealthy people...don't give a squirt whether I pay an additional three percent a year - I sure as [censored] don't care about their three percent.

You are right! I basically don't care about most other folks tax burdens. But...why can't everybody keep more of their money? We as a country, had zero income tax until the first world war. Being a Congressman was a part time job, they usually made less than their constituents for the government aspect of their work. Being a public servant was done because you wanted to help your city, county, state, or country. NOT because you got paid more than your civilian counterpart, and NOT because you could retire when you had your twenty years in.
We as taxpayers just vote in who we think will help us, help me, personally, not who will help our country. And helping our country is not done by alienating the rich away from the working class, or making the poor more dependent than ever on the government. This will just make this more of a caste society. I thought this country would be polarized more than ever by having Hilary wear the big boy pants. It is starting to look like Obama may have the same effect.
