We'll see. It's probably too early for him to do any real damage to himself with remarks like this. And, if and when the time comes, he's on record as distant from the Pres... which, while a gamble, is a safe gamble that people will be damn tired of the Bush come runnin time. But, if Bush gains popularity along the way (or the war, in particular) then McCain may have a problem with his remarks.

I have to say, it'll only hurt him in the primaries if the GOP consensus is to stick to Team Dubya. If they are trying to distance themselves from "the old guard" as it were, they'll all be singing the same song on the issue.... more or less.. some more boldly than others.
