| Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate. |

But social issues are what Republicans beat people over the head with, so Giuliani's hole is right where most Republican candidates are strongest (or at least strongest to their base). When the other Republican candidates drag him through the mud in the primaries I doubt he makes it to the other side with much support.

Are Republicans willing to overlook his stance on social issues b/c of 9/11? I think as the elction gets closer, you'll see his numbers come WAY down. This is going to be a knockout, dragout fight to the end and I have no idea who the front runner is despite the early polling #'s. |

I think once things get more serious on the Republican side, Rudy will make an easy target. He has too much baggage. There are better looking Republican candidates out there.
Maybe he would be a good Vice-presidential candidate? |

Poll numbers are pretty much irrelevant at this point in time. For instance, I heard the other day that Bill Clinton's numbers in February 1991 were in the single digits.

Um, you obviously don't understand the term. Carpetbagging has to do with moving into a new region for the direct purpose of political/personal gain. For instance, Hillary being a native of Illinois and associated with Arkansas moving to New York (where there was no association) for the sole reason of becoming a Senator. Rudy is New York born and has always embraced that identity. Hence, not a carpetbagger. While you raise an issue, it has nothing to do with being a carpetbagger. |

His going into southern churches strikes me as un-genuine. Out of his character.(3 marriages)(much speculation of affairs)(a genuine New Yorker) I think he quickly disappears from the presidential race. |

"Um, you obviously don't understand the term."
Um, I DID print up the "classic" definition of the term! And, having spent a lot of time in Florida, I know that southerners use it frequently to describe people just like Rudy and Hillary! ![]() |

So, what do you think will happen with Rudy G.?

I personally understand why he is the frontrunner as of now. He has shown he can handle disasters, which is very unlike any presidential nominee that has not already served as president. He is appealing to many people because he is not as conservative on social issues, and many think that is what the Republicans may need to get elected in 08'. Also, he is on record saying he would appoint judges like Alito and Roberts which caters to the Republican side. I personally will not vote for him, but it is understandable as of now why he is the frontrunner. Republicans very much dislike McCain, and Romney is yet to really put himself out there. I do not think Giuliani wins the primary either.

With that said, I just don't know if Giuliani would be a good candidate. If he makes it out of the primaries and gets the nomination, I'd have no problem voting for him but Mitt's still my man. |
