IMHO - Since a picture is worth a thousand words, avatars of political candidates/seated officials should be restricted. Their use in a post quoting a candidate/official statement should be allowed.

Everyone on here knows who's a Dem/Rep anyways. It's not like it's a secret.

I'm not sure that I agree that "Romney in '08" should be off-limits. Why is it Thump's problem if someone else can't abstain from partaking in political commentary elsewhere on the site?

If it was meant to incite a response, I could see it being a problem, but I don't see a sig/user title like that being inflammatory.

Just my opinion. Doesn't really affect me either way.

Agreed...if it said "Romney in 08....Clinton blows" then of course it is a problem. But if it is in his sig then people can turn off sigs, and really his is just showing his support for a canidate, much like we have the symbols that people can buy to show the support for their teams, so really dont think it is a problem at all.

I think the key thing to remember hear, is that BP is first and foremost a site for sports fan (specifically Buckeye fans) and that all things political have been relegated to this subforum.

Perhaps we could do different things if we had forum-specific sigs and avatars, but the reality is that at this time we do not have that flexibility.

Also please remember that things of a political nature (like everything else on this site, really) are open to change in the future. Right now, though, our focus is on curbing a lot of the negative aspects of political discussion that has recently occurred in this forum. So things might loosen up somewhat as we go along. By that same token though, things may remain the same.

So, let's trust the coaches for now and see how this plays out.
