The Veepstakes '08 -- who will they pick and when?
Now that Obama has all but wrapped up the nomination, when will McCain and Obama pick their running mate and who will it be?

Good thing I don't have to bet right now - I'm boldly predicting that we will know more about the Dem race tomorrow...
As for McCain... maybe he'll pick McCain 2000 to appeal to independents and reagan democrats

I'd think Obama would want someone to either help lock the Southern States or to help with the blue-collar vote.
But, if neither strategy is a consideration then Richardson or Wesley Clark would help bolster foreign policy credentials of the ticket. (With Clark being the one more likely to get bloodied in VP debates).
Online preference voting for Obama's ticket and cabinet can be conducted here ...
As for McCain - tough choice - off-setting the race factors is one reason why some earlier speculated that Rice would be in the running. But, that would bring too many tainted memories.
So, why not Jindal?

I think Obama will go with someone who is currently either supporting Hillary or someone who has kept their preference to themselves. Personally, I think he'll go with someone like Evan Bayh or perhaps maybe Governor Kaine from Virginia.
McCain will pick someone like Bobby Jindal or perhaps someone else with relatively impeccable conservative credentials. While someone like Governor Crist of Florida is probably in the running, McCain is going to win Florida anyway so that might not bring much to the table.

The sound bites that would be pulled out if Rice was in the race would be pretty devastating, especially since McCain is going to be painted as Bush 2.0.
As far as Obama goes, Richardson to lock up the Latino vote or Edwards to try and help out with the southern white vote both seem like pretty solid choices.
