| Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate. |

![]() Saying Congress has done a [censored]ty job makes me a W apologist? I didn't say anything on behalf of Bush, so resist the urge to project for me. Bush's performance has left a lot to be desired, but he's had a lot of help from an incompetent Congress. Judging from the approval ratings of BOTH entities, it appears I'm not alone in that point of view. |

God save us from "bipartisanship" which usually means it benefits elected officials at our expense. So called "Campaign Finance Reform" is a classic example, which does far more for imcumbents than it does for voters, and we can thank John McCain for pushing that one. ![]() |

Jake,
Just curious, why not a third-party candidate for you? I know they have no chance at winning, but you seem interested in taking a political stance at this point, not your ideas necessarily "winning". So, is there a third-party candidate that you think would make a good president? If not, what exactly are you looking for? Was there anyone in the primaries that represented your political preferences well? |

I consider myself a Constitutional Libertarian. I disagree with conservatives and liberals because they both try to tell everyone else what to do, they just have different opinions on how we all should think and act. I don't care what you do so long as you don't infringe on someone else's liberty, or demand that someone else pay for it. I think the federal government should be what it was intended to be - small. Benjamin Franklin said it best when asked what kind of government we're going to have: "A republic, for as long as you can keep it." He knew that the federal government would try to grow and become stronger, despite the checks and balances in place at the time. What would I change? We're the "United States of America" for a reason - it's about the States, not the feds...at least it was. The US Senate was appointed by the state legislatures for over 100 years. Their job was to keep an eye on the House, on behalf of the states. Once we passed the 17th amendment the federal government was free to get out of control. Instead of being part of the solution, Senators are now an even bigger problem than the House. We didn't have a federal income tax for over 100 years - WTF business is it of the federal government how much legal income you earned last year? We do NOT need the IRS to fund our government. There is no Constitutional provision for the federal government to own land, yet they now own about 50% of it west of the Mississippi, placing it off limits to the People. I could go on but I think you can see where I'm going. We've become a socialist democracy, not much different than Europe. The two major parties are simply arguing over varying degrees of socialism and government control, so I really have little use for either of them. Our government looks as much like the Communist Manifesto as the Constitution. That's not rhetoric, it's easily provable. I doubt I'll ever see a Presidential candidate that I actually like ever again. We have two generations now who know little of what I'm talking about because they've been living in the United Socialist States of America their entire lives. Trying to turn America back into what it was intended to be would be like trying to put toothpaste back in the tube, at this point. Last edited by Jake; 06-07-2008 at 01:09 PM. I'd like to take this moment to reaffirm my support for my candidate.

i truely believe a vote of "no confidence" should be on every ballot for every single political office. edit: ya know... in 2 more elections ill be old enough to run for pres. i might actually consider making a run for the whitehouse with mr. pryor as my running mate and run under the "none of the above" party line. maybe if i got enough support the 2 party system might actually realize how big a jokes their candidates really are. Let's see...both candidates are peddling the global warming nonsense, both still oppose drilling in some areas, and both suggest government "investment in alternative energies" will relieve the pressure at the pump (not to mention on our economy).
If you believe any of that is going to reduce gas prices, boost the market, curb inflation or reduce the deficit then you're one of the reasons we ended up having to choose from these two jokers in the first place. We're screwed either way. It's only a question of degree, especially if one party has control of everything come January. Gridlock, sadly, is our best hope. |
