Half of British troops want to quit - survey
By Michael Evans
July 11, 2008 12:00am
BRITAIN'S ability to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan has been questioned as it
emerged that almost half of all military personnel are ready to quit.
The first survey of attitudes across the army, navy and air force, released
yesterday, reveals unprecedented levels of concern over equipment, morale
and pay.
The research was conducted by the Ministry of Defence and involved more
than 24,000 military personnel. It found the sense of overcommitment
means that 47 per cent of soldiers and army officers think regularly of
resigning.
OTOH, I'd think most soldiers in most wars want to be somewhere else than where they are. Is this anything unusual?

47% is a bit high, but being constantly deployed likely has a lot to do with it.
It would be interesting to see what the percentage is during times when the British aren't deploying as often.
I'd also like to know the unit breakdowns of those who are thinking of resigning - is it the infantry types or the REMFs?

Age, experience & career field have a lot to do with it.
When I was deployed to Saudi for Desert Shield/Storm I had just gotten engaged and definitely did not want to be there.
A couple of years later I fought to get transferred out of my unit so I could deploy to Somalia.
In the Brit's case I just figure they don't want to be captured by Iran and forced to play ping pong.

I'd be willing to wager that more than 47% of civilians think regularly of quitting their job.
Truth be told, I'd wager that aside from some delusional high ranking Bill Killgore officer types, every swinging dick in uniform routinely asks himself what in the hell he was thinking when he signed on.
Thats why they keep troops busy with sensless tasks. They don't have time to sit and think about how bad everything sucks while they stay in habit of following orders.
Put this one with other shocking news like Shaq is big and water is wet.
